4696. In Search of Another Country Mississippi and the Conservative Counterrevolution, by Joseph Crespino (read 15 Apr 2010) This is a thoughtful study of white Mississippi's reaction to Brown v. Board of Education, ranging from massive resistance to today's at least lip-service acceptance, but concentrating on the time from 1964 to 1980. The early chapters tend to be somewhat dull, but the book is well-done and the final chapter is insightful and semi-encouraging. ( )
