PREFACE.

ITis an admirable saying of a wise Romana, who nevertheless was an entire stranger to "The Book"," "The Book of Books"," "The precious, precious Book of God","

a Horace, the brightest genius in the court of Augustus.

"The Book" is the genuine English of the word, Bible, which is of Greek derivation, and exclusively applied to the Holy Scriptures.

Usher, the learned and venerable Bishop of Armagh, constantly distinguished the Holy Scriptures by this appropriate character.

d These words formed a part of the last address of a dying martyr. When he had arrived at the stake, and adjusted every thing preparatory to his execution, he took his final leave of all terrestrial objects in this empassioned language. "Farewell Sun and Moon!
