It is the sacrifice of the LORD's passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head, and worshipped. Exod. xiii, 14-16. And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man, and the first-born of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the first-born of my children I redeem. And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt. our children cease Exod. xvi, 32-34. And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD Commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. As the LORD commanded VALUE OF SUCH INSTRUC- Prov. x, 1. The Proverbs of Prov. xv, 20. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother. Prov. xvii, 21, 25. He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow; and the father of a fool hath no joy. A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him. Prov. xix, 26. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. 1 John iii, 1. Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God! therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. ITS BLESSINGS. Gal. iv, 5-7,19,28. To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was are the children of promise. Rom. viii, 14-17. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the Spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 1 John iii, 2, Beloved, now are we the sons of God; and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. ITS DUTIES. Matth. v, 45. That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Eph. v, 1. Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children. Phil. ii, 15. That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world. Heb. xii, 5. Could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down? Exod. iv, 18. And Moses went and returned to Jethro his fatherin-law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace. Exod. xviii, 5-8. And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God. Num. x, 31, 32. And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes. And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee, Ruth ii, 1, 20. And Lot went out, and spake untohis sons-in-law,which married his daughters, and said, Up, get ye out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons-in-law. And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. And, while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. Moreover, he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them:and after that his brethren talked with him. And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan. Ps. cxxxiii, 1-3. Behold, how Gen. 1, 18, 21. DIMINUTION OF FAMILIES, A SORE JUDGMENT UPON A LAND. on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress. Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity. Lev. xxvi, 32. And I will bring the land into desolation; and your dwell enemies which therein shall be astonished at it. Deut. xxviii, 62, 63.
