ITS BOUNDARIES. Exod.xxiii, 31. And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee. Deut. iii, 12-17. And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites. And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half-tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashian, which was called the land of giants. Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob, unto the coasts of Ge CANAAN. herit it, one as well as another; concerning the which I lifted up mine hand to give it unto your fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance. And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side, from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad; Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon, which is by the coast of Hauran. And the border from the sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side. And the east side ye shall measure from Hauran, and from Damascus, and from Gilead, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the border unto the east sea. And this is the east side. And shuri and Maachathi, and called the south side southward, from them after his own name, Bashan-Tamar even to the waters of strife havoth-jair, unto this day. And in Kadesh, the river to the great I gave Gilead unto Machir. And sea. And this is the south side unto the Reubenites, and unto southward. The west side also the Gadites, I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon, half the valley, and the border, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon; The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdoth-pisgah eastward. Deut. iv, 47-49. Amos vi, 2. Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border? THE SAME AS SEEN IN THE VISION OF EZEKIEL. Ezek. xlvii, 13-21. Thus saith the Lord God, This shall be the border whereby ye shall inherit the land, according to the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall have tro portions. And ye shall in shall be the great sea from the border, till a man come over against Hamath. This is the west side. So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel. Ezek. xlviii, 29, 30. This is the land which ye shall divide by lot unto the tribes of Israel for inheritance, and these are their portions, saith the Lord GOD. And these are the goings out of the city on the north side, four thousand and five hundred measures. DESCRIPTION OF THE COUNTRY. Exod. xxxiii, 3. Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way. Lev. xx, 24. But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have seperated you from other people. Deut. viii, 7-9. For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills; A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey; A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass. Deut. xxvi, 9-11. And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey. And now, behold, I have brought the first-fruits of the land which thon, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God. And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God bath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you. said, Arise, that we may go up Judges xviii, 9, 10. And they against them: for we have seen good; and are ye still? Be not the land, and, behold, it is very slothful to go, and to enter to ye shall come unto a people secure, possess the land. When ye go, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place thing that is in the earth. where there is no want of any Jer. xxxii, 22. And hast given them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey. Ezek. xx, 6. In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands. In that same day the LORD made a Covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites. Gen. xvii, 8. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. Gen. xxvi, 2, 3. And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of. Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee: for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries; and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father. Gen. xxxv, 12. And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. Gen. xlviii, 21. And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die; out God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. Gen. 1. 24. And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. Erod. vi, 4, 8. Neh. ix, 24, 25. And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot. REFLECTIONS UPON THE CONQUEST. Num. xxi, 29-31. Woe to thee, Joshua xxiii, 5. And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it Josh. xiii, 3-12. From Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites: From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites; And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sun-rising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon, unto the entering into Hamath: All the inhabitants of the hill-country, from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel; only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee. Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh; With whom the Reubenites and Ye servant of the LORD, commanded |
