Chap. lit. Andthey hall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation, before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the fervice of the tabernacle.

8 And they shall keep all the inftruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of hirael, to do the fervice of the tabernacle.

9 And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron, and to his fons: they are wholly given unto him out of the children or lírael.

10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his fons, and they shall wait on their prieit's othce: and the stranger that cometh nigh fhall be put to death.

11 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying,

12 And I, behold, I have taken the Le. vites from among the children of Ifrael, instead of all the firft-born that openeth the matrix among the children of Ifrael; therefore the Levites fhall be mine.

13 Because all the first-born are mine; for, on the day that I fmote all the firft-born in the land of Egypt, 1 hallowed unto me a the first-born in lirael, both man and beait; mine they shall be: I am the LORD.

14 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes in the wilderness of Sinai, faying,

15 Number the children of Levi, after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward thait thou number them.

16 And Mofes numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he was commanded.

17 Andthefe were the fons of Levi, by their names; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. -18 And these are the names of the fons of Gerthon, by their families; Libni, and Shimei. 14 And the fons of Kohath, by their amilies; Amram,and Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 And the fons of Merari, by their ta. milies; Mahli, and Muthi: there are the families of the Levites, according to the house of their fathers.

21 Of Gerthon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimites: these are the families of the Gerthonites.

22 Those that were numbered of them according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, even those that were numbered of them, were feven thousand and five hundred.

23 The families of the Gerthonites fhall pitch behind the tabernacle weftward.

24 And the chief of the house of the father of the Gerthonites feall be Eliafaph the fon of lacl.

25 And the charge of the fons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation, ball be the tabernacle, and the tent, the cover ing thereof, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation,

26 And the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it, for all the fervice thereof. 27 And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Ize. harites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites.

28 In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thou

33 Of Merari was the family of the Maulites, and the family of the Muthites: thefe are the families of Meran.

34 And those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males,trom a month ol: and upward, were lix thou and and two hundred.

35 And the chief of the house of the father of the families of Merari wes Zuriel, the fon of Abihail: thefe fhall pitch on the fide of the tabernacle northward.

36 And under the cuftody and charge of the fons of Merari ball be the boards of the ta bernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and the fockets thereof, and all the veifels thereof, and all that serveth thereto,

37 And the pillars of the court round about, and their fockets, and their pins, and their cords.

38 But thofe that encamp before the tabernacle toward the eart, even before the ta bernacle of the congregation eastward, ball be Mofes, and Aaron, and his fons, keeping the charge of the fanctuary for the charge of the children of Ifrael: and the stranger that cometh nigh thall be put to death.

39 Ali that were numbered of the Levites, which Mofes and Aaron numbered at the commandment of the LORD, throughout their families, all the males, from a month old and upward, were twenty and two thoufand.

40 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Num ber all the first-born of the males of the children of Ifrael, from a month old and up. ward, and take the number of their names.

41 And thou shalt take the Levites for me, (1am the LORD,) inftead of all the firit-born among the children of Lirael; and the cattle of the Levites, instead of all the firftlings among the cattle of the children of Ifrael.

42 And Mofes numbered, as the LORD commanded him, all the firft-born among

the children of Israel.

43 And all the first-born males, by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of thofe that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen.

44 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying,

45 Take the Levites inftead of all the fira-born among the children of Ifrael, and the cattle of the Levites inftead of their cattle, and the Levites fhall be mine: I am the LORD.

46 And for thofe that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and threefcore and thirteen or the firft-born of the children of Ifrael, which are more than the Levites; 47 Thou

47 Thou shalt even take five fhekels apiece by the poll; atter the thekel of the fanctuary thalt thou take them: (the thekel is twenty gerans:)

48 And thou shalt give the money where with the odd number of them is to be redeemed unto Aaron and to his fons.

49 And Mofes took the redemption-money of them tha. were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites.

so Of the first-born of the children of Ifrael took he the money; a thousand three hundred and threefcore and five fbekels, at ter the thekel of the fanctuary.

51 And Mofes gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron and to his fons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD Commanded Moles.

CHAP IV.

The Levites' fervice. 17 The office of the pricfts. 34 The number of Kobarbites, 38 of the Gerbonites, 42 an of the Merarites.

AND the LORD fpake unto Mofes and

unto Aaron, faying,

2 Take the fum of the fons of Kohath from among the fons of Levi, after their families, by the house of their fathers;

3 From thirty years old and upward, even until fifty years old, all that enter into the hot to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.

S¶And when the camp fetteth forward, Aaron thal. come, and his fons, and they thall take down the covering veil, and cover the ark of teftimony with it;

7 And upon the table of fhew-bread they fhall spread a cloth of blue, and put thereon the dishes, and the fpoons, and the bowls, and covers to cover withal: and the continual bread thall be thereon.

8 And they shall fpread upon them a cloth of fcarlet, and cover the fame with a cover Ing of badgers' skins, and thall put in the faves thereof.

And the fhall take a cloth of blue, and cover the candlestick of the light, and his lamps, and his tongs, and his fnuff-dishes, and all the oil-ve:lels thereof, wherewith they minifter unto it.

12 And they thall take all the inftruments of ministry, wherewith they miniter in the fanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers' fkins, and fhall put them on a bar.

13 And they thall take away the afhes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth thereon: 14 And they fhall put upon it all the veffels thereof, wherewith they minifter about it. even the cenfers, the flesh-hooks, and the thovels, and the bafons, all the veffels of the aftar, and they shall spread upon it a cover.

16 And to the office of Eleazar the fon of Aaron the priest pertaineth the oit for the light, and the fweet incenfe, and the daily meat-offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, arid of all that therein is, in the fanctuary, and in the veffels thereof.

17 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes and unto Aaron, faying,

18 Cut ye not off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites :

19 But thus do unto them, that they may

live, and not die, when they approach unto
the moit holy things; Aaron and his fous
hall go in, and appoint them every one to
his fervice, and to his burden.

20 But they thall not go in to fee when the
holy things are covered, left they die.

21 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying,

22 Take alfo the fum of the fons of Gerfhon, throughout the house of their fathers, by their families:

23 From thirty years old and upward until fifty years old halt thou number them all that enter in to perform the fervice, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.

24 This is the fervice of the families of the Gerihonites, to ferve, and for burdens.

25 And they shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tabernacle of the cons gregation, his covering, and the covering of the badgers' ikins that is above upon it, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

26 And the hangings of the court, and the hangings for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and their cords, and all the inftruments of their fervice, and all that is made for them: fo fhall they serve.

27 At the appointment of Aaron and his fons fhall be all the fervice of the fons of the Gerthonites, in all their burdens, and in all their fervice: and ye thall appoint unto them in charge all their burdens.

28 This is the fervice of the families of the fons of Gerthon in the tabernacle of the congregation: and their charge fall be under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

29 As for the fons of Merari, thou shalt number them after their families, by the houfe of their fathers:

30 From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old fhalt thou number them, every one that entereth into the fer. vice to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation.

31 And this is the charge of their burden according to all their fervice in the tabernacle of the congregation; the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pil32 And lars thereof, and fockets thereof,

And the pillars of the court round about, and their fockets, and their pins, and their cords, with all their inftruments, and with all their fervice: and by name ye shall reckon the staments of the charge of their burden. 33 This is the fervice of the families of the fons of Merari, according to all their fervice in the tabernacle of the congregration, under the hand of Ithamar the fon of Aaron the priest. 34 And Mofes and Aaron, and the chief of the congregation, numbered the fons of the Kohathites, atter their families, and after the house of their fathers;

35 From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entereth into the lervice for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.

36 And thole that were numbered of them, by their families, were two thousand feven hundred and fifty.

37 These were they that were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all that might do fervice in the tabernacle of the congrega. tion, which Moles and Aaron did number, according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Mofes.

38 And thofe that were numbered of the Cons of Gerthon, throughout their families, and by the house of their fathers,

39 From thirty years old and upward even anto fifty years old, every one that entereth into the fervice for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation;

Even thole that were numbered of them, throughout their tamilies, by the house of their fathers, were two thousand and fix hundred and thirty.

41 Thefe are they that were numbered of the families of the fons of Gershon, of all that might do fervice in the tabernacle of the congregation, whom Moles and Aaron didum ber, according to the commandment of the LORD.

42 And thofe that were numbered of the families of the fons of Merari, throughout their families, by the house of their fathers,

43 From thirty years old and upward even unto firty years old, every one that entereth into the fervice for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation;

44 Even thofe that were numbered of them, after their families, were three thousand and two hun ired.

45 Thefe be thofe that were numbered of the families of the fons of Merari, whom Mofes and Aaron numbered, according to the word of the L by the hand of Mofes.

46 All tofe that were numbered of the Levites, whom Mofes and Aaron and the chief of Ifrael numbered, after their families, and after the house of their fathers;

47 from thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that came to do the fervice of the ministry, and the fervice of the burden in the tabernacle of the cou. gregation;

48 Even thofe that were numbered of them, were eight thousand and five hundred and four core.

49 According to the commandment of the LORD they were numbered by the hand of Mofes, every one according to his fervice, and according to his burden: thus were they numbered of him, as the LORD commanded Moles.

3 Both male and temale shall ye put out, without the camp thall ye put them; that they defile not their camps, in the midf whereot I dwell.

4 And the children of Ifrael did fo, and put them out without the camp: as the LORD fpake unto Mofes, fo did the children of Ifrael. And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, fay.

speak unto the children of Ifrael, When a man or woman thall commit any fin that men commit, to do a treipafs against the LORD, and that perfon be guilty;

7 Then they shall contefs their fin which they have done: and he thall recompenfe his trefpafs with the principal thereof, and aud unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto bim against whom he hath trefpaffed.

8 But if the man have no kinfman to recom. pense the trefpafs unto, let the refpafs be recompensed unto the LORD, even to the priest, befide the ram of the atonement, whereby an atonement thall be made for him.

9 And every offering of all the holy things of the children of Ifrael, which they bring unto the prieft, shall be his.

10 And every man's hallowed things thall be his: whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it shall be his.

11 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, fay. ing,

12 Speak unto the children of Ifrael, and fay unto them, If any man's wite go afide, and commit a trefpass against him,

13 And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept clofe, and the be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither the be taken with the manner;

14 And the fpirit of jealoufy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and the be defiled; or if the fpirit of jealoufy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and the be not defiled:

15 Then fhall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley-meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankin. cenfe thereon; for it is an offering of jealoufy, an offering or memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.

16 And the priest shall bring her near, and fet her before the LORD.

17 And the priest fhall take holy water in an earthen veffel; and of the duff that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest fhall take, and put it into the water,

18 And the prieft thall fet the woman be. fore the LoxD, and uncover the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealoufy-offering; and the priest fhall have in his hand the bitter water that caufeth the curfe.

19 And the priest fhall charge her by an oath, and fay unto the woman, li no man have lien with thee, and if thou haft not gone afide to uncleannels with another initead of

NUMBERS. thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curfe:

20 But if thou haft gone afide to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and fome man hath lain with thee bende thine hutband;

21 Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of curfing; and the prieft thall fay unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curfe and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to fwell:

22 And this water that caufeth the curfe fall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to fwell, and thy thigh to rot. And the woman thall say, Amen, amen.

23 And the prieft fhall write thefe curfes in a book, and he fhall blot them out with the bitter water;

24 And he shall caufe the woman to drink the bitter water that caufeth the curfe: and the water that caufeth the curfe fhall enter into her, and become bitter.

25 Then the prieft fhall take the jealoufy. offering out of the woman's hand, and fhal. wave the offering before the LORD, and over it upon the altar.

26 And the prieft fhall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereot, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward thall caufe the woman to drink the water.

27 And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it thall come to pafs, that if the be defiled, and have done trefpafs against Der hutband, that the water that caufeth the curfe fhall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly fhall fwell, and her thigh fhall rot: and the woman thall be a curfe among her people.

28 And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then the fhail be free, and thall conceive feed.

29 This is the law of jealoufies, when a wife goeth aúde to another instead of her husband, and is defiled;

30 Or when the fpirit of jealoufy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall fet the woman before the LORD, and the priest thall execute upon her all this law,

3 Then fhall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman thall bear her iniquity. CHAP. VI.

The law of the Nazarites. 22 The form of bleng the people.

ΑΝ

ND the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying, 2 Speak unto the children of Ifrael, and fay unto them, When either man or woman thali feparate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite to feparate themselves unto the LORD;

3 He hall feparate himself from wine, and ftrong drink, and fhall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of ftrong drink, neither thall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moift grapes, or dried.

4 All the days of his feparation fhall he eat nothing that is made of the vine-tree, from the kernels even to the hulk.

5 All the days of the vow of his feparation there thall no razor come upon his head; until the days be fulfilled, in the which he teparateth himself unto the LORD, he thall be holy, and hall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.

The lary of the Nazaritet.

6 All the days that he feparateth himself unto the LORD, he shall come at no dead body.

7 He shall not make himself unclean for his tather, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his fifter, when they die; because the confecration of his God is upon his head.

8 All the days of his feparation he is holy unto the LORD.

9 And it any man die very fuddenly by him, and he hath defiled the head of his confecration; then he thall have his head in the day of his cleaning, on the feventh day fhall he have it.

10 And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the prieft, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

11 And the priest shall offer the one for a fin-offering, and the other for a burnt-offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he finned by the dead, and fhall hallow his head that fame day.

12 And he thall confecrate unto the LORD the days of his feparation, and thall bring a lamb or the first year for a trefpafs-offering: but the days that were before fhall be loft, becaufe his feparation was defiled.

13 And this is the law of the Nazarite: When the days of his feparation are fulfilled, he fhall be brought unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation;

14 And he thall offer his offering unto the LORD, one he-lamb or the first year without biemith for a burnt-offering, and one ewelamb of the first year without blemish for a fin-offering, and one ram without blemish for peace-offerings,

15 Anda baiket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, and waters of aleavened bread anointed with oil, and their meat-offering, and their drink-offerings.

16 And the priest fhall bring them before the LORD, and thall offer his fin-offering, and his burnt-offering.

17 And he thall offer the ram for a facrifice of peace-offerings unto the LORD, with the basket or unleavened bread: the prieft fhall offer alfo his meat-offering, and his drink-oftering.

18 And the Nazarite thall have the head of his feparation at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; and fhall take the hair or the head of his feparation, and put it in the fire which is under the facrifice of the peace-offerings.

19 And the prieft fhall take the fodden thoulder of the ram, and one unleavened cake out of the basket, and one unleavened water, and shall put them upon the hands of the Nazarite, after the hair of his feparation is fhaven :

20 And the prieft thall wave them for a wave-offering beiore the IRD; this is holy for the priest, with the wave-breaft and heavefhoulder: and after that the Nazarite may drink wine.

21 This is the law of the Nazarite who hath vowed, and of his offering unto the LORD for his feparation, befides that that his hand fhall get according to the vow which he vowed, fo he must do aiter the law of his feparation.

22¶And the LORD spake unto Mofes, saying, 23 Speak

to Mofes from the mercy-feat.

anointed it, and fanctified it, and all the inftruments thereof, both the altar and all the vesels thereof, and had anointed them, and fanctified them,

That the princes of Ifrael, heads of the house of their fathers, (who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered,) offered.

3 And they brought their offering before the LORD, fix covered waggons, and twelve exen; a waggon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle.

4 And the LORD spake unto Mofes, faying, 5 Take it of them, that they may be to do the fervice of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou halt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his fervice.

And Mofes took the waggons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites.

7 Two waggons and four oxen he gave unto the fons of Gerthon, according to their fervice. 8 And four waggons and eight oxen he gave unto the fons of Merari, according unto their service, under the hand of Ithamar the fon of Aaron the priest.

But unto the fons of Kohath he gave Gone, because the fervice of the fanctuary belonging unto them was, that they should bear upon their foulders.

10 And the princes offered for dedicating of the altar, in the day that it was anointed, even the princes offered their offering before the altar.

Is And the LORD faid unto Mofes, They fall offer their offering, each prince on his day, for the dedicating of the altar.

12 And he that offered his offering the first day was Nahthon the ion of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah.

13 And his ortering was one filver charger, the weight whereof was an hundred and thirty mekels, one filver bowl of feventy fhekels, after the thekel of the fanctuary, both of them were full of fine flour mingled with cil, for a meat-offering:

14 One ípoon of ten bekels of goid, full of Incense:

15 One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt-offering:

16 One kid of -e goats for a fin-offering: - 17 And for a facrifice of peace-offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he-goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Nahthon, the fon of Amminadab.

18 On the fecond day Nethaneel the fon of Zuar, prince of Iffachar, did offer.

19 He offered for his offering one filver charger, the weight whereof was an hundred
