Of Speaking with tongues.

23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all fpeak with tongues, and there come in thofe that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not fay that ye are mad?

24 But if all prophefy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he faith, all things are put under him, it is maniteit that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

32 if after the manner of men I have fought with beafts at Ephefus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rife not! let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we die.

33 Be not deceived; evil communications corrupt good manners.

34 Awake to righteoufnefs, and fin not; for fome have not the knowledge of God; fpeak this to your shame.

35 But fome man will fay, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they

36 Thou fool, that which thou foweft, is not quickened, except it die:

37 And that which thou foweft, thou foweft not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of fome other grain:

3 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleated him, and to every feed his own body.

39 All fleth is not the fame fiefh: but there is one kind of flefa of men, another fleth of beafts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

40 There are alfo celeftial bodies, and bodies tereftrial: but the glory of the celef tial is one, and the glory of the terreftrial is another.

41 There is one glory of the fun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one far differeth from another star in glory.

2 Grace be to you and peace from God cur Father, and from the Lord Jefus Chrift. 3 Bleffed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jefus Chrift, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble by the comfort, wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

5 For as the fufferings of Chrift abound in us, fo our confolation alfo aboundeth by Chrift. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your confolation and falvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the faine fufterings which we alfo futler: or whether we be comforted, it is for your confolation and falvation.

7 And our hope of you is ftedfaft, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the furferings, fo fball ye be alfo of the confolation.

8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Afia, that we were preffed out of measure, above ftrength, infomuch that we defpaired

even of life:

9 But we had the fentence of death in ourfelves, that we should not truit in ourselves,

but in God which raifeth the dead:

10 Who delivered us from fo great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we truft that he will yet deliver us;

11 Ye alfo helping together by prayer for us, that for the gitt beflowed upon us by the means of many perfons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

12 For our rejoicing is this, the tetinay of our confcience, that in fimplicity and god ly fincerity, not with fiethly wifdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our converts tion in the world, and more abundantly ta you ward.

13 For we write none other things unte you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

14 As alfo ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even zi ye alfo are our's in the day of the Lord Jefus.

And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a fecond benefit;

16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to cofae again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judea.

17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I ufe lightnefs? or the things that I purpose, do I purpofe according to the deh, that with me there thould be yea, yea, and nay, nay?

18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

19 For the Son of God, Jefus Chrift, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

20 For all the promises of God in him are vez, and in him Amen, unto the glory of

God by us.

21 Now he which ftablisketh us with youin Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

1 A commendation of Paul's ministry. 6 A
comparison between the minifters of the.
lar and the gospel.

D

O we begin again to commend ourselves, or need we, as fome others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commen. dation from you?

2 Yeare our epiftle written in our hearts, known and read of all men :

3 Forafmuch as ye are manifeftly declared to be the epiftle of Chrift ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of ftone, but in dethly tables of the heart.

6 Who alfo hath made us able minifters of the new teftament; not of the letter, but of the spirit; for the letter killeth, but the fpirit giveth life.

7 But it the miniftration of death, written and engraven in ftones, was glorious, fo that the children of Ifrael could not stedfaftiy be hold the face of Moles for the glory of his countenance, which glory was to be done away;

8 How fhall not the miniftration of the fpirit be rather glorious?

9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the miniftration of righteoufnefs exceed in glory.

10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this refpect, by reason of the glory that excelleth,

11 For it that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

12 Scelag then that we have fuch hope, we ufe great plainnefs of speech:

13 And not as Moles, which put a veil over his ce, that the children of Israel could dot te fantly look to the end of that which is abolished:

14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaincth the fame veil untaken away tile reading of the old teftament; which cell is done away in Christ.

15 But even unto this day, when Mofes is read, the veil is upon their hearts. 10 Nevertheless, when it shall turn to the Losd, the veil inll be taken away.

17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the fame image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

CHAP IV.

2 But have renounced the hidden things of difhonefty, not walking in craftinefs, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifeftation of the truth commending ourfelves to every man's confcience in the fight of God.

3 But if our gofpel be hid, it is hid to them that are lott:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not left the light of the glorious gofpel of Chrift who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

5 For we preach not ourselves, but Chrift Jefus the Lord; and ourselves your fervants for Jefus's fake.

6 For God, who commanded the light to thine out of darkness, hath thined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jefus Chrift.

7 But we have this treafure in earthen veffels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jefus's fake, that the life alfe of Jefus might be made manifeft in out mortal flesh.

12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

13 We having the fame spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I fpoken; we alfo believe, and therefore fpeak;

14 Knowing that he which raifed up the Loru jefus thall raife up us alfo by Jefus, and fall pretent us with you.

15 For all things are for your fakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

16 For which caufe we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceed ing and eternal weight of glory:

18 While we look not at the things which
are feen, but at the things which are not
feen: for the things which are feen are m-

eternal.

3 If fo be that being clothed we thall not be found naked.

4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be fwallowed up of life.
