Chrift the bread of life. caufe he faid, I am the bread which came down from heaven.

42 And they faid, Is not this Jefus the fon of Jofeph, whofe father and mother we know how is it then that he faith, I came down from heaven?

43 Jefus therefore answered and faid unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath fent me traw him: and I will raife him up at the last day.

45 is written in the prophets, And they hall be all taught of God. Every man there -fore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

46 Not that any man hath feen the Fa. ther, fave he which is of God, he hath feen the Father.

He reproveth his kinfmen. 67 Then faid Jefus unto the twelve, Will ye alfo go away?

68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom thall we go? thou haft the words of eternal life.

69 And we believe and are fure that thou art that Chrift the Son of the living God. 70 Jefus anfwered them, have not I cho. fen you twelve? and one of you is a devil. 71 He fpake of Judas Iscariot, the fon of Simon: for he it was that thould betray hini, being one of the twelve.

CHAP. VII. ·

1 Jesus reproveth his kinfmen, 10 goeth unto the feaf of tabernacles, 14 teacheth in the temple. 40 Divers opinions of Chrift. 45 The Pharifees are angry at their offi cers, and at Nicodemus.

leverly, verily, Lefay unto you. He that AFTER these things Jefus walked in Ga.

believeth on me hath everlasting life.

48I am that bread of life.

49 Your Fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. liany man eat of this bread, he thall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

52 The Jews therefore ftrove among themfelves, faying, How can this man give us bis flesh to ear:

53 The Jefus faid unto them, Verily, verily, I fay unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

54 Whofo eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

55 For my neth is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in

him.

$7 As the living Father hath fent me, and I live by the Father; fo he that eateth me, ven he shall live by me.

58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth of this bread thall live for ever.

59 Thefe things faid he in the fynagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

60 Many therefore of his difciples, when they had heard this, faid, This is a hard faying; who can hear it?

61 When Jefus knew in himself that his difciples murmured at it, he said unto thein, Doth this offend you?

62 What and if ye fall fee the Son of man afcend up where he was before?

63 It is the fpirit that quickeneth; the fleth profiteth nothing the words that I fpeak unto you, they are fpirit, and they are life.

64 But there are fome of you that believe not. For Jefus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who fhould betray him.

55 And he faid, Therefore said I unto you, That no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

66 From that time many of his difciples went back, and walked no more with him.

lilce: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews fought to kill him.

2 Now the Jews feaft of tabernacles was

at hand.

3 His brethren therefore faid unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy difciples alfo may fee the works that thou doet.

4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in fecret, and he himself feeketh to be known openly: if thou do thefe things, fhew thyfelf to the world.

6 Then Jefus faid unto them, My time is not yet come: but vour time is alway ready. 7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I teftify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

8 Go ye up unto this feaft: I go not up yet unto this feaft; for my time is not yet full come.

When he had faid thefe words unto them, he abode fill in Galilee.

10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he alfo up unto the feaft, not openly, but as it were in fecret.

11 Then the Jews fought him at the feaft, and iajd, Where is he?

12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him; for fome faid, He is a good man: others faid, Nay; but he deceive: the people.

13 Howbeit, no man fpake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

14¶ Now about the midst of the feaft, Jefus went up into the temple and taught.

15 And the Jews marvelled, faying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

16 Jelus anfwered them and faid, My doctrine is not mine, but his that fent me.

17 If any man will do his will, he thall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether 1 fpeak of myfelf.

18 He that feaketh of himfelf feeketh his own glory: but he that feeketh his glory that fent him, the fame is true, and no un righteoufness is in him.

19 Did not Mofes give you the law, and fet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

20 The people anfwered and faid, Thou haft a devil: who goeth about to kill thee! 21 Jefus anfwered and faid unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. 22 Moles

24 Judge not according to the appearance, bet judge righteous judgment.

25 Then laid fome of them of Jerufalem, Is not this he whom they feek to kill?

26 Lut, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they fay nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

72 Howbeit, we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

28 Then cried Jefus in the temple, as he taught, faying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of my felf, but he that fent me is true, whom ye know not.

43 So there was a division among the people because of him.

44 And fome of them would have taken him; but no man laid pands on him.

45 Then came the officers to the chief priets and Pharifees; and they faid unto them, Why have ye not brought him?

46 The officers aufwered, Never man Duxe like this man.

JESUS went onto the mount of Olives,

2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him: and he fat down, and taught them.

3 And the feribes and Pharifees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had fet her in the midft,

4 They fay unto him, Matter, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

5 Now Mofes n the law commanded us, that fuch fhould be ftoned: but what fayef thou?

6 This they faid tempting him, that they might have to accufe him. But Jefus ftoop ed down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them mot.

7 So when they continuca aking him, he lifted up himself, and fard unto them, He that is without fin among you, let him firft

can a tone at her.

8 And again he ftooped down, and wrote on the ground.

And they which heard it, being convið. ed by their own confcience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the latt: and Jefus was left alone, and the woman fan ding in the midit.

to When Jefus had lifted up himself, and faw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accufers? hath no man condemned thee!

11 She faid, No man, Lord. And Jefus faid unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and in no more.

12 Then fpake Jefus again unto them, faying, I am the light of the world: Fe that followeth me thall not walk in darkness, bus thall have the light of life.

13 The Pharifees theretore faid unto him, Thou beareft record of thyfelf; thy record is not true.

14 Jefus anfwered and fait unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. 1 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that fent me.

17 It is alfo written in your law, that the teftimony of two men is true.

18 I am one that bear witnefs of myself, and the Father that fent me beareth withefs of me.

19 Then

Chap. ix. 19 Then faid they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jefus answered, Ye neither know me nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye fhould have known my Father alfo.

20 These words fpake Jefus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him: for his hour was not yet come.

21 Then faid Jefus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall feck me, and thall die in your fins: whither I go ye cannot come.

22 Then faid the Jews, Will he kill him. felt? because he faith, Whither I go ye can

Hot come.

23 And he faid unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

24 I faid therefore unto you, That ye fhall die in your fins; for if ye believe not that I am be, ye thall die in your fins.

25 Then faid they unto him, Who art thou? And Jefus faith unto themi, Even the fame that I faid unto you from the beginning..

26 I have many things to lay and to judge of you: but he that fent me is true; and I fpeak to the world thofe things which I have heard of him:

27 They understood not that he fpake to them of the Father.

28 Then faid Jefus unto them, When ye have litted up the Son of man, then thail ye know that i am be, and that I do nothing of myfelf; but as my Father hath taught me, I fpeak these things.

29 And he that fent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always thofe things that pleafe him.

30 As he spake these words, many believed

on him.

31 Then faid Jefus to thofe Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my difciples indeed;

32 And ye hall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 They anfwered him, We be Abraham's feed, and were never in bondage to any man: how fayeft thou, Ye shall be made tree?

34 Jefus answered them, Verily, verily, I fay unto you, Whofoever committeth fin is the fervant of fin.

35 And the fervant abideth not in the house for ever; but the Son abideth ever.

36 If the Son therefore thall make you free, ye thall be free indeed.

37 I know that ye are Abraham feed; but ye leek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

38 I fpeak that which I have feen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

39 They answered and faid unto him, Abraham is our father. Jefus faith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

40 But now ye feek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then faid they to him, "We be not born of fornication; we have one father, even God.

42 Jefus faid unto them, If God were your father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myfelf, but he fent me.

43 Why do ye not understand my fpeech ven because ye cannot hear my word.

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye be live me not.

46 Which of you convinceth me of fin And if I lay the truth, why do ye not be lieve me?

47 He that is of God heareth God's words ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not

53 Art thou greater than our father Abra. ham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makeit thou thyseli?

54 Jefus aufwered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that nonoureth me, of whom yé fay, That he is your God.

55 Yet ye have not known him; but 1 know him, and if I thould fay I know him not, 1 fhall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his faying.

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to fee my day; and he faw it, and was glad.

57 Then faid the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet finty years old, and hait thou feen Abraham?

58 Jefus fail unto them, Verily, verily, I fay unto you, Betore Abraham was, I am.

59 Then took they up ftones to caft at him : but Jefus hid him clt, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so paffed by.

2 And his diciples afken him, faying, Ma. fter, who did fin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

3 Jefus antwered, Neither hath this man finned, nor his parents: but that the works of God thould be made manned in him.

4 I must work the works of him tha' fent the, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

6 When he had thus fpoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the fittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.

He that was born blind

S. JOHN. He went his way, therefore, and washed, and came leeing.

8The neighbours therefore, and they which betore had feen him that he was blind, faid, is not thus he that fat and begged?

9 Some faid, This is he: others faid, He is like him: bur he faid, I am be.

To Theretore faid they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?

11 He answered and faid, A man that is called Jefus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, ani faid unto mie, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wath: and I went and wathed, and I received fight.

12 Then faid they unto him, Where is he? He faid, I know not.

13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

14 And it was the fabbath day when Jefus made the clay, and opered his eyes.

15 Then again the Pharifces affo afked him, How he had received his fight. He faid unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I wafhed, and do fee.

16 Therefore faid fome of the Pharifees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the fabbath day. Others faid, How can a man that is a finner do fuch miracles? And there was a divifion among them.

17 They fay unto the blind man again, What fayeft thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He faid, He is a prophet.

18 But the Jews did not believe concerning

him, that he had been blind, and received his fight, until they called the parents of him that had received his fight.

19 And they asked them, faying, Is this your fon, who ye fay was born blind? How then doth he now fee?

20 His parents anfwered them, and faid, We know that this is our fon, and that he was born blind:

21 But by what means he now feeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age, aik him; he shall fpeak for himself.

22 Thele words fpake his parents, because they leared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confefs that he was Chrift, he should be put out of the fynagogue.

23 Therefore faid his parents, He is of age, afk him.

24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and faid unto him, Give God the praife: we know that this man is a finner.

25 He answered and faid, Whether he be a finner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I fee.

26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye alfo be his difciples? 28 Then they reviled him, and faid, Thou art his difciple; but we are Mofes's difciples. 29 We know that God fpake unto Mofes: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

30 The man anfwered and faid unto them, Why, herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes,

31 Now we know that God heareth not rs: but if any man be a worshipper of nd doch his will, him he heareth.

is excommunicated by the Pharijtu, 32 Since the world began was it not an that any man opened the eyes of one that w bora blind.

33 Itthis man were not of God, he cou nothing.

34They answered and said unto him, Th Wait altogether born in fins, and don thes teach us? And they caft him out.

35 Jelus heard that they had caft him out, and when he had found him, he faid unto him Dot thou believe on the Son of God!

36 He anfwered and faid, Who is he, Lai, that I might believe on him?

37 And Jefus faid unto him, Thon hatt beh feen him," and it is he that talketh wis

thee.

38 And he faid, Lord, I believe. And k worthipped him.

39 And Jefus faid, For judgment I come into this world; that they waich fee a might fee, and that they which fee might b made blind.

40 And fome of the Pharifees which were with him heard thefe words, and faid unto him, Are we blind alfo?

41 Jefus faid unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no fin: but now ye fay, We fee; therefore your tin remaineth. CHAP. X.

Chrift is the door, and the good hepherd: 22 be proveth by his works that he is Chrißt.

Erily, verily, I fay unto you, He that en

tereth not by the door into the theep fold, but climbeth up fome other way, the fame is a thiet and a robber.

2 But he that entereth in by the door is the thepherd of the sheep.

3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own theep by name, and leadeth them cut.

4 And when he putteth forth his own theep, he goeth before them, and the theep follow him: for they know his voice.

5. And a ftranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of ftrangers.

This parable fpake Jefus unto them: bet they understood not what things they were which he fpake unto them.

7 Then faid Jefus unto them again, Verily, verily, I fay unto you, I am the door of the theep.

8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the theep did not hear them. 9 I am the door: by me it any man enter in, he thall be faved, and shall go in and out, and find pafture.

10 The thief cometh not but for to fleal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good thepherd: the good thepberd giveth his lite for the theep.

12 But he that is an hireling, and not the fhepherd, whofe own the sheep are not, feeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the theep, and Heeth; and the wolt catcheth them, and feattereth the sheep.

13 The hireling fleeth, becaufe he is an hireling, and careth not for the theep. 14 I am the good thepherd, and know my beep, and am known of mine.

15 As the Father knoweth me, even fo know I the Father; and I lay down my life for the theep. 16 And

fhall hear my voice; and there fhall be one fold, and one thepherd.

17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take

it again.

18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myfelt: I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

19 There was a divifion theretore again among the Jews for thefe fayings.

20 And many of them faid, "He hath a devil, and is mad; Why hear ye him?

21 Others faid, Thefe are not the words of him that hath a devil: can a devil open the eyes of the blind?

22 And it was at Jerufalem the feaft of the dedication, and it was winter.

23 And Jefus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.

24 Then came the Jews round about him, and faid unto him, How long doft thou make us to doubt! If thou be the Chritt tell us plainly.

25 Jefus anfwered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me:"

26 But ye believe not; because ye are not of my theep, as I faid unto you.

27 My theep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they thall never perith, neither shall any pluck them out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all: and none is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

30 I and my Father are one.

31 Then the Jews took up ftones again to flone him.

32 Jefus anfwered them, Many good works have 1 fhewed you from my Father; For which of those works do ye ftone me?

33 The Jews anfwered him, faying, For a good work we ftone thee not, but for blafphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makeft thyfelt God.

34 Jefus anfwered them, Is it not written in your law, I faid, Ye are gods?

35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the fcripture cannot be broken;

36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath fanctified, and fent into the world, Thou blafphemeft; because I faid, I am the Son of God?

37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in him. 39 Therefore they fought again to take him: but he efcaped out of their hand,

40 And went away again beyond Jordan, into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.

41 And many reforted unto him, and faid, John did no miracle: but all things that John fpake of this man were true.

42 And many believed on him there.

3 Therefore his lifters fent unto him. faying, Lord, behold he whom thou lovett is fick.

4 When Jefus heard that, he faid, This fickness is not unto death, but for the giery of God, that the Son of God might be glori fied thereby.

5 Now Jefus loved Martha, and her fifter, and Lazarus.

6 When he had heard therefore that he was fick, he abode two days ftill in the fame place where he was.

7 Then after that faith he to his difciples, Let us go into Julea again.

8 His difciples fay unto him, Mafter, the Jews of late fought to one thee; and goest thou thither again?

9 Jefus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he ftumbleth not, becaufe he feeth the light of this world.

10 But if a man walk in the night, he ftumbleth, because there is no light in him.

11 These things faid he and after that he faith unto them, Our friend Lazarus fleepeth; but I go that I may awake hum cut of fleep.

12 Then faid his difciples, Lord, if he fleep. he thall do well.

17 Then when Jefus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. 18 (Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerufalem, about fifteen furlongs off.)

19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary to comfort them concerning their brother.

20 Then Martha, as foon as the heard that Jefus was coming, went and met him: but Mary fat fill in the houfe.

21 Then faid Martha unto Jefus, Lord, if thou hadit been here, any brother had not died.

22 But I know, that even now, whatever thou wilt atk of God, God will give it thee. 23 Jefus faith unto her, Thy brother that rife again.

24 Martha faith unto him, I know that he hali rife again in the refurrection at the latt day.

25 Jefus faid unto her, I am the refurrec. tion, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet that he live;
