15 And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD faid unto me, Go, prophefy unto my people Ifrael.

16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: thou fayeit, Prophefy not against Ifrael, and drop not thy word against the house of Ifaac.

17 Therefore thus faith the LORD; Thy wife fhall be an harlot in the city, and thy fons and thy daughters shall fall by the fword, and thy land thall be divided by line: and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Ifrael fhall furely go into captivity forth of his land.

7 The LORD hath fworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein; and

11 Behold, the days come, faith the Lord Gon, that I will fend a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

12 And they thall wander from sea to fea, and from the north even to the eat, they thali run to and fro to feek the word of the 1.ORD, and

fhall not find it.

13 In that day fhall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirit.

14 They that fwear by the fin of Samaria, and fay, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-theba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rife up again.

Saw the Lord ftanding upon the altar: and he faid, Smite the lintel of the door, that the potts may fhake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will lay the last of them with the fword: he that fleeth of them fhall not flee away, and he that efcapeth of them fhall not be delivered.

HE vifion of Obadiah. Thus faith the Lord GOD Concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambaffador is fent among the heathen, Arife ye, and let us rife up against her in battle.

2 Behold, I have made thee fmall among the heathen: thou art greatly defpifed.

3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwelleft in the cletts of the rock, whofe habitation is high; that faith in nis heart, Who fhall bring me down to the ground!

4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thuu fet thy neit among the ftars, thence will I bring thee down, faith the LORD.

Fonab, fent to Nineveh, fleeth to Tarshish: he is bewrayed by a tempeft, 11 thrown into the fea, 17 and fwaliowed by a ffb. Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the fon of Amittai, faying,

2 Arife, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry againit it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

3 But Jonah rofe up to flee unto Tarshish from the prefence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a fhip going to Tarthith: fo he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarthith from the prefence of the LORD.

4 But the LORD fent out a great wind into the fea, and there was a mighty tempert in the fea, so that the ship was like to be broken. 5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god,and caft forth the wares that were in the ship into the fea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the fides of the ship; and he lay, and was fait afleep.

6 So the fhipmafter came to him, and said unto him, What meaneft thou, O fleeper? arife, call upon thy God, if fo be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

7 And they faid every one to his fellow, Come, and let us caft lots, that we may know for whofe caufe this evil is upon us. So they caft lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

8 Then faid they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whofe caufe this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comen

thou? what is thy country and of what

people art thou?

9 And he faid unto them, I am an Hebrew ; and fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the fea and the dry land.

10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and faid unto him, Why haft thou done this For the men knew that he fled from the prefence of the LORD, because he had told them. 11Then faid they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the fea may be calm unto us? for the fea wrought, and was tempestuous.

12 And he faid unto them, Take me up, and caft me forth into the fea; fo thall the fea be calm unto you: for I know that for my fake this great tempeft is upon you.

13 Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the fea wrought, and was tempestuous against

them.

14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and faid, We beleech thee, O LORD, we befeech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, haft done as it pleased thee.

15 So they took up Jonah, and catt him forth into the sea: and the fea ceafed from her raging.

16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a facrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.

17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fifh to fwallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fifh three days and three nights.

CHAP. II.

The prayer of Jonah: 10 he is delivered
from the fift.

HEN Jonah prayed unto the LORD his
God out of the fith's belly.

2 And faid, I cried by reafon of mine afflic tion unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardett my voice.

3 For thou hadft caft me into the deep, in the midst of the feas; and the floods compaffed me about: all thy billows and thy waves paffed over me.

4 Then I faid, I am caft out of thy fight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple." 5 The waters compaffed me about, even to the foul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

6 I went down to the bottoms of the moun tains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet haft thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

7 When my foul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8 They that obferve lying vanities forfake their own mercy.

9 But I will facrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

10 ¶ And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. CHAP. III.

1 Jonab, fent again, preacheth to the Ninevites: 5 upon their repentance, 10 God repenteth.

AND the word of the LORD came unto

Jonah the fecond time, faying,

2 Arife, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid

thee.

6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arofe from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered bim with fackcloth, and fat in athes.

7 And he caufed it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, faying, Let neither man nor beat, herd nor flock, taite any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

8 But let man and beast be covered with fackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea. let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

1 And God faw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil that he had faid that he would do unto them; and he did if not. Bb 6 CHAP.

2 And he prayed unto the LORD, and faid, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my faying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fed before unto Tarthith: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, flow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteft thee of the evil.

3 Therefore now, O LORD, take, I befeech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

4 Theu faid the LORD, Doelt thou well to be angry!

5 So Jonah went out of the city, and fat on the cart fide of the city, and there made him a booth, and fat under it in the fhadow, till he might fee what would become of the city.

6 And the Lord God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might

7 But God prepared a worm when the morn. ing rofe the next day, and it fmote the gourd that it withered.

8 And it came to pass, when the fun did arife, that God prepared a vehement eaft wind; and the fun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wifhed in himself to die, and faid, it is better for me to die than to live.

9 And God faid to Jonah, Doeft thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

10 Then faid the LORD, Thou haft had pity on the gourd, for the which thou haft not la.. boured, neither madeft it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

11 And thould not I fpare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than fixfcore thoufand perfons that cannot difcern between their right hand and their left hand; and aljo much cattle?

1 Micah fbeweth the wrath of God against Fa cab for idolatry: 10 he exhorteth to mourning. THE HE word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morathite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he faw concerning Samaris and Jerufalem.
