As for I have hardened his SD the LORD faid unto Mofes, Go in heart, and the heart of his fervants, that I might shew thefe my figns before him: And that thou mayeft tell in the ears hy fo, and of thy fon's fon, what things have wrought in Egypt, and my figns Which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD. 3 And Moles and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and faid unto him, Thus faith the Loss God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refufe to humble thyfelf before me! Let ay people go, that they may ferve me. Elfe, if thou reiufe to let my people go, behold, to-morrow will I bring the locufts into thy coaft: Andthey fhal' cover the face of the earth, tha: one cannot be able to see the earth: and they thall eat the refidue of that which is eaped, which remaineth unto you from the Fail, and thall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field: 6 And they fhall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy fervants, and the houfes of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, or thy father's fathers have feen, fince the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh. 7 And Pharaoh's fervants faid unto him, How long thall this man be a tuare unto us! let the men go, that they may ferve the LORD their God: Knowent thou not yet that Egypt is deftroyed? And Moles and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he faid unto them, Go, ferve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go! 9 And Mofes faid, We will go with our young and with our old, with our fons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with nur herds will we go; for we must hold a feaft unto the LORD. to And he faid unto them, Let the LORD be fo with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. 11 Not fo: go now ye that are men, and ferve the LORD; for that ye did defire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's prefence. 12 And the Lord faid unto Mofes, Stretch at thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locufts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. 13 And Mofes ftretched forth his rod over the land of Fgypt, and the LORD brought an eat wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the eaft wind brought the locufts, 14 And the locuits went up over all the land of Egypt, and retted in all the coafts of Egypt: very grievous were they; betore them there were no fuch locufts as they, neither after them fhall be fuch. 15 For they covered the face of the whole earth, o that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all 16 Then Pharaoh called for Mofes and Aaron in hatte; and he faid, I have finned against the LORD your God, and aga nit you 17 Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my fin only this once, and entreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only. 18 And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the LORD. 19 And the LORD turned a mighty trong wet wind which took away the locufts, and caft them into the Red fea; there remained not one locuft in all the coats of Egypt. 20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, fo that he would not let the children of Ifrael go. 21 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkne's over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may he felt. 22 And Mofes ttretched forth his hand toward heaven; and here was a thick dark nefs in all the land of Egypt three days: 23 They faw not one another, neither rofe any from his place for three days: but all the children of Ifrael had light in their dwell ings. 24 And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and faid, Go ye, ferve the LORD; only let your locks and your herds be ttayed let your little ones alfo go with you, 25 And Mofes faid, Thou must give us allo factices and burnt-offerings, that we may facrifice unto the Locour God. 25 Our cattle alo fhall go with us; there fhall not an hoor be leit behind; for thereof muft we take to ferve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we muit ferve the LORD, until we come thither. 27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. 28 And Pharaoh faid unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, fee my face no more; for in that day thou feeft my face thou shalt die. 29 And Mofes faid, Thou haft spoken well, I will fee thy face again no more." СНАР. Х1. 1 God's message to the Ifraelites, to borrow jewels of their neighbours. 4 The death of the first-born threatened. AND the LORD faid unto Mofes, Yet will! bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterward he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he thall furely thruft you out hence altogether. 2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of filver, and jewels of gold. 3 And the LORD gave the people favour in the fight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Mofes was very great in the land of Egypt, in the fight of Pharaoh's ervants, and in the fight of the people. 4 And Mofes faid, Thus faith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midit of Egypt And all the first-born in the land of Egypt fhall die, from the frit-born o: Pharaoh that fitteth upon his throne, even unto the first с bora The payover inflituted. And all these thy fervants fhall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, faying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee; and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger. And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Pharaoh hall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt. 10 And Mofes and Aaron did all there wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, fo that he would not let the children of Ifrael go out of his land. CHAP. XII. 3 The pallover inflituted.29 The firf-born are Rain. 31 The Ifraelites are driven out of the land. AND LORD fake unto Mofes and Aa ron in the land of Egypt, faying, 2 This month all be unto you the begin ning of months: it shall be the firt month of the year to you. 3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Ifrael, faying, In the tenth day of this month they thall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house : 4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his houfe take it according to the number of the fouls'; every man according to his eating thall make your count for the lamb. 5. Your lamb thall be without blemith, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the thee;, or trom the goats: 6 And ye hall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the fame mouth; and the whole afembly of the congregation of If rael thali kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and Atrike it on the two fide-pofts and on the upper door-port of the houies, wherein they thail eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roaft with nre, and unleavened bread; and with bitter beibs they shall eat it. at not of it raw, nor fodden at all with water, but roaft with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remain eth of it until the morning ye thall burn with fire. 11 ¶ And thus fhall ve eat it; with your loins girded, your thoes on your feet, and your it in your hand; and ye shall eat it in hafte: it is the Lorn's pullover. 12 For I will pass through the land of E. gypt this night, and will imite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beat; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: tam the LORD. 13 And the blood thall be to you for a token upon the houfes where ye are: and when I fee the blood, I will pafs over you, The firf-born flain. and the plague fhall not be upon you to detroy you, when I fmite the land of Egypt. 14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye thall keep it a feaft to the LORD throughout your generations: ye fhall keep it a feaft by an ordinance for ever. 15 Seven days fhall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye thali put away leaven out of your boules: for whofoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the feventh day, that foul fhall be cut off from Ifrael. 16 And in the first day there shall be an ho ly convocation, and in the feventh day there thall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work thall be done in them, fave that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. 17 And ye shall obferve the feast of unlea vened bread; for in this felt-fame day have I brought your armies out of the land of E. gypt: therefore shall ye obferve this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. 18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat un leavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. 19 Seven days thall there be no leaven found in your houfes for whofcever eateth that which is leavened, even that foul thall be cut off from the congregation of Ifrael, whether he be a ftranger, or born in the land. 20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened ; in all your habitations thall ye eat unleavened bread. 21 Then Mofes called for all the elders of Ifrael, and faid unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the paffover. 22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyffop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and trike the lintel and the two fide-pots with the blood that is in the bafon; and none of youthall go out at the door of his house until the morning. 23 For the LORD will pass through to fmite the Egyptians; and when he feeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two fide-pofts, the LORD will pafs over the door, and will not fuffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to fmite you. 24 And ye thall obferve this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy fons for ever. 25 And it shall come to pafs, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye thall keep this vice. 26 And it fhall come to pafs, when your children shall fay unto you, What mean ye by this fervice? 27 That ye hall fay, It is the facrifice of the LORD'S pafover, who paffed over the houfes of the children of Ifrael in Egypt, when he finote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped. 28 And the children of Ifrael went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Mofes and Aaron, fo did they 20 And it came to pafs, that at midnight the LORD fmote all the firft-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh that far on his throne, unto the first-bora of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the first-born of cattle. 30 And Pharaoh rofe up in the night, he, and The Ifraelites leave Egypt. Chap. xiii. and all his fervants, and all the Egyptians; 31 And he called for Mofes and Aaron ja alfo take your flocks and your herds, as je have faid, and be gone; and bless me alfo. 33 And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might fend them out of the land in hare; for they faid, We be all dead wes. 34 And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their Boulders. CHAP. XIV. God infrufeth the Ifraelites in their jour- AND the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying, 4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled; and the heart of Pharaoh ani of his fervants was turned against the people, and they faid, Why have we done this, that we have let Ifrael go from ferving us ! 6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him: 7 And he took fix hundred chofen chariots, and all the chariots or Egypt, and captains over every one of them. 8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Fgypt, and he purfued after the children of Ifrael: and the children of Ifrael went out with an high hand. 9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the fea, befide Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon. 10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Ifrael lifted up theireyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were fore atraid: and the children of Ifrael cried out unto the LORD. 11 And they laid unto Moles, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hañ thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? Wherefore haft thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? 12 is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, faying. Let us alone, that we For it bad been may ferve the E The Egyptians drowned. better for us to ferve the Egyptians, tha 13 And Mofes faid unto the people, Fez 14 The LORD thall fight for you, and y fhall hold your peace. 15 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Where” 21 fore crieft thou unto me? fpeak unto the chil dren of Ifrael, that they go forward: 16 But lift thou up thy rod, and fretch ou thine hand over the fea, and divide it: apie the children of Ifrael thall go on dry groun through the midst of the fea. 17 And I, behold, I will harden the heart an of the Egyptians, and they thall follow them and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, andr upon all his hoft, upon his chariots, and upor his horfemen. 18 And the Egyptians fhall know that lan the LORD, when I have gotten me honour up on Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon him horfemen. 19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of firacl, removed and wen behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before theiriace, and flood behind them 20 And it came between the camp or the Egyptians and the camp of Ifracl; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to thefe: fo that the one came not near the other all the night. 21 And Mofes ftretched out his hand over the fea; and the LORD caufed the fea to go back by a strong eaft wind all that night, and made the fea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the children of Ifrael went into the midft of the fea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right. hand, and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians purfued, and went in after them to the midf or the fea, even all t Pharaoh's horfes, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24 And it came to pafs, that in the morn ing watch the LORD' looked unto the hoft ot the Fgyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, 25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: fo that the Egyp tians faid, Let us flee from the face of Ifrael; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians. 26 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Stretch out thine hand over the fea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horiemen. 27 And Mofes freiched forth hishand over the fea, and the fea returned to his ftrength when the morning appeared; and the Egyp tians filed against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the fea. 28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the hoft of Pharaoh that came into the fea atter them; there remained not fo much as one of them. 20 But the children of Ifrael walked upon dry land in the midst of the fea; and the wa 30 Thus ters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. 2 The Jong of Mofer. XV. 1er Jung. 22 The people want water. The waters at Márað are sweetened. The depths have covered them: they fank Into the bottom as a flone. 6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath daffed in pieces the enemy. And in the greatness of thine excellency thou haft overthrown them that rose up again thee: thou fentet forth thy wrath, which coafamed them as ftubale. 8 and with the blast of thy nofrils the waters were gathered together, the floods food upright as an herp, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the fea. 9 The enemy faid, I will purfus, I will overtake, I will divide the fpoil; my luft fhall The Ifraelites murmur, rael went on dry land in the midst of the fes, 20 And Miriam the prophetess, the fifter of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances, 21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horfe and his rider hath he thrown into the fea. 22 so Mofes brought Ifrael from the Red fea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wil dernefs, and found no water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 Aid the people murmured against Moses, faying, What thall we drink? 25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD thewed him a tree, which when he had caft into the waters, the waters were made fiect: there he made for them a ftatute and au ordinance, and there he proved them, 26 And faid, if thou wilt diligently hear ken to the voice of the LOAD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his fight, and will give ear to his commandments, and keep all his ftatutes, I will put none of these dif eales upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. 27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threelcore and ten palm-rees: and they encamped there by the waters.
