1 David, in confidence of faith and experience of God's faniour, prayeth both for bimself, and again the enemies of his foul: 14 he promifeth conftancy: 17 he prayeth for fupport in old age: ty be praifeth God, and

N thee, O LORD, put my truft: let me

deliver me because of mine enemies.

19 Thou haft known my reproach, and my fhame, and my difhonour: mine adveríaries are all before thee.

20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heavineis: and I looked for Jome to take pity, but there was none and for comforters, but I found none.

21 They gave me alfo gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink,

22 Let their table become a fnare before them and that which should have been tor their welfare, let it become a trap.

23 Let their eyes be darkenca, that they fee not; and make their los continually to shake.

24 Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them. 25 Let their habitation be defolate; and let azone dwell in their tents.

26 For they perfecute him whom thou haft fitten; and they talk to the grief of thofe whom thou haft wounded.

27 Add iniquity to their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.

13 For the LORD heareth the poor, and defpifeth not his prifon rs.

4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrigh teous and cruel man.

s For Chou art my hope, O Lord God: the art my truft from my youth.

6 By thee have I been holden ap from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise fall be continu ally or thee.

I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong reiuge.

8 Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.

9 Caft me not off in the time of old age; forfake me not when my itrength faileth.

10 For mine enemies fpeak a anit me; and they that lay wait for my foul take counfel together.

11 Saying, God hath forfaken him; perfe cute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.

12 O God, be not far from me: O my God, make hatte for my help.

13 Let them be confounded and confumed that are adverfaries to my foul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that feek my hurt.

14 But I w.ll hope continually, and will yes praise thee more and more.

15 My mouth thall thew forth thy righte oufness and thy falvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.

16 I will go in the ftrength of the Lord Gop; I will make mention of thy righte oufnefs, even of thine only.

17 O God, thou haft taught me frour my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.

18 Now alfo, when I am old and grey headed, O God, forfake me not; until I have thewed thy ftrength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.

19 Thy righteousness alto, O God, is very high, who haft done great things: O God, who like unto thee!

20 Thou, which haft fhewed me great and fore troubles, fhalt quicken me again, and halt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

21 Thou thalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every fide.

5 They fhall fear thee as long as the fun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

6 He hall come down like rain upon the mown grafs: as fhowers that water the earth. 7 In his days fhall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace fo long as the moon endureth.

8 He fhall have dominion alfo from sea to fea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. 9 They that dwell in the wilderness thall bow before him; and his enemies thall lick the duft.

10 The kings of Tarthith and of the ifles hall bring prefents: the kings of Sheba and Seba thall offer gifts.

11 Yea, all kings fhall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.

12 For he thall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor alfo, and him that hath no helper.

13 He fhall fpare the poor and needy, and fhall fave the fouls of the needy.

14 He shall redeem their foul from deceit and violence: and precious thall their blood be in his fight.

15 And he thall live, and to him fhall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer alfo fhall be made for him continually; and daily fhall he be praised.

16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof fhall thake like Lebanon: and they of the city thall flourish like grafs of the earth.

19 And bieffed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen, and amen.

His great temptation. 2 But as for me, my feet were almoft gone my fteps had well nigh flipped.

3 For I was envious at the foolish, when faw the profperity of the wicked.

4 For there are no bands in their death: but their ftrength is firm.

5 They are not in trouble as other men : neither are they plagued like cther men.

6 Therefore pride compareth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a gar

ment.

7 Their eyes ftand out with fatnefs: they have more than heart could with.

8 They are corrupt, and fpeak wickedly concerning opprettion: they speak loftily. 9 They fet their mouth against the hea vens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. 11 And they say, How doth God know? and is their knowledge in the Most High?

12 Behold, thefe are the ungodly who pro fper in the world; they increase in riches. 13 Verily I have cleanfed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. 14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chaftened every morning.

15 If I fay, I will speak thus; behold, I fhould offend against the generation of thy children.

16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me.

17 Until I went into the fanctuary of God; then underft od I their end.

18 Surely thou didft fet them in flippery places thou caftedft them down into deftruction.

19 How are they brought into defolation. 23 in a moment! they are utterly consumed

with terrors.

20 As a dream when one awaketh; fo, O LORD, when thou awakeft, thou shalt defpife their image.

21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

22 So toolith was I, and ignorant: I was as a beaft before thee.

23 Nevertheless, I am continually with thee; thou haft holden me by my right hand.

24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counfel, and afterward receive me to glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I defire befides thee.

26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion

for ever.

27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou haft deftroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my truft in the Lord GOD,

Matchil of Afaph.

GIVE eal, O my people, to my law: incline

your ear to the words of my mouth.

2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark fayings of old:

3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4 We will not hide them from their children, thewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his ftrength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

5 For he established a teftimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Ifrael, which he commanuel our fathers, that they thould make them known to their children;

6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which thould be bora, who fhould arife and declare them to their children:

7 That they might fet their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a gene. ration that fet not their heart aright, and whofe fpirit was not ftedfaft with God.

9 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

10 They kept not the covenant of God, and refuted to walk in his law;

11 And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had thewed them.

12 Marvellous things did he in the fight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

incredulous and disobedient.

13 He divided the fea, and caused them to pafs through; and he made the waters to itand as an heap.

14 In the daytime alfo he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. 15 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. 16 He brought ftreams alfo out of the rock, and caufed waters to run down like rivers. 17 And they finned yet more against him by provoking the Mott High in the wildernefs. 18 And they tempted God in their heart by alking meat for their luft.

19 Yea, they fpake againft God; they faid, Can God furnith a table in the wilderness?

20 Behold, he fmore the rock, hat the waters gushed out, and the ftreams overflowed; can he give bread alfo? Can he provide fileth for his people?

21 Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: fo a fire was kindled againit Jacob, and anger alfo came up against Ifrael;

22 Because they believed not in God, and trufted not in his falvation:

23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

25 Man did eat angels' food: he fent them meat to the full.

26 He caufed an eaft wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the

fouth wind.

27 He rained flesh alfo upon them as duft, and teathered fowls like as the fand of the fea:

28 And he let it fall in the midft of their camp, round about their habitations.

29 So they did eat, and were well filled, for he gave them their own defire;

30 They were not eftrange: from their luft. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

31 The wrath of God came upon them, and flew the tatteft of them, and mote down the chofen men of Ifrael.

32 For all this they finned till, and be lieved not for his wondrous works.

33 Therefore their days did he confume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

34 When he flew them, then they fought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. 36 Nevertheless, they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their teagues.

37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they tediaft in his covenant.

38 But he, being full of compattion, for gave their iniquity, and deftroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not ftir up all his wrath.

39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that pateth away, and cometh not again.

40 How oft did they provoke him in the wildernefs, and grieve him in the defert! 41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Ifrael.

42 They remembered not his hand, or the day when be delivered them from the enemy. 43 How he had wrought his figus m Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan;

44 And

Ifrael rejeed. Fudah chosen.

PSALM S. 44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

45 He fent divers forts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which deftroyed them.

46 He gave alfo their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labour unto the locuft. 47 He deftroyed their vines with hail, and their fycamore trees with froft.

48 He gave up their cattle alfo to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

49 He caft upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by fending evil angels among them.

so He made a way to his anger; he fpared not their foul from death, but gave their life over to the puftilence;

51 And fmote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chiet of their ftrength in the tabernacles of Ham:

52 But made his own people to go forth like theep, and guided them in the wildernefs like a flock.

53 And he led them on fafely, fo that they feared not: but the fea overwhelmed their

chemies.

54 And he brought them to the border of his fanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

55 He cait out the heathen alfo before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Ifrael to dwell in

their tents.

56 Yet they tempted and provoked the moft high God, and kept not his teftimonies;

$7 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned afide like a deceitful bow.

58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealouly with their graven images.

59 When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Ifrael:

60 So that he forfook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

A Pfalm of Afaph.

God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerufalem on heaps. 2 The dead bodies of thy fervants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the fleth of thy faints unto the beafts of the earth.
