then father and son were in existence at one and the same time; and who of the two can call the other my son, or my father? if both were from the beginning? therefore we must natually sup pose that the father was before the son, and existed alone for some time. Besides we find their own acknowledgment, that the Messiah or supposed son of GOD was born again, But it is not as the Sophists maintain: I have already, part 1. sect. 1. stated the interpretation of the words," Let us make a man," &c.

[From a neglect of the Translator the following passage was forgotten to be inserted in part 1. sec. 1. p. 2. Genesis, i. 26. " And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness," &c. This the Sophists and Epicureans declare as proving a trinity, for they say, "Let us make," is plural, namely, father and son, &c. But they are mistaken. God spoke to the earth, let us make a man between me and thee; namely, give thou me from thy earth, and I will give from my spirit. Ib. 2.7." And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Consequently the spirit is of God, and the dust of the earth. Thus it stands v. 27. "So God created man in his own image." This is expressed in singular; why does it not say in plural, and they created? No! for God only and alone created man. The following text will likewise serve as a further testimony of my assertion, Ibid. iii. 19. "In the sweat of thy face.. shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken," &c. From this it is very evident that God spoke to no one except with the earth, for the whole earth and all that is created upon earth, is earthly; and

and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to retvrn, and have mercy on them,

SECTION III.

I AM determined to discuss and dissolve the sentiments of those who have deserted their original faith; and will not cease until I have erased every unjust belief of religion and the influence of base doctrine.

David says in Psalm ii. 7. "I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee," &c. The Antagonists explain this text as refering to Jesus; the same do they of the following text in Gen. i. 26. " And GoD said, Let us make man in our image." This they interpret that GoD spake to his son, LET US, I AND YOU, MAKE A MAN. Here arises the question, was Jesus already born at that time? if so, he certainly is born twice: and again I ask, Is it true that an inseperable trinity is existing, united in one?
