and swift executioners of his vengeance. With what horror may we suppose these sinners re-assuming their bodies, not to repeat their former sensualities in them, but that they may become the instruments of their greater shame and heavier punishment; and when lifting up their eyes, they see the inexorable Judge seated on his throne, having his eye firmly fixed on them, so that they can find no possible way of escaping his notice ! With what eagerness and importunity will they then cry "to the rocks to fall on them, and to the mountains to hide them from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" But their cries will be in vain; for as they cannot escape the notice of his eye, so they cannot resist the power of his hand, but are forced to the bar. The books are opened, a loud and dreadful catalogue of sins are set in order before them, in all their odious colours. What terrors will seize their guilty consciences, when they see the secrets of their impious hearts revealed, and all the aggravated crimes of their vicious lives published before the assembled world, and themselves made the scorn and derision of saints, angels, and devils. But O, what heart can conceive, or tongue describe, the overwhelming horror of their minds, when they are cast at the great tribunal, and hear the Judge pass sentence on them ; pronounce their doom in these awful words: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire." When they see themselves seized by devils, and forcibly hurried into those regions of despair, where every thing that might tend to alleviate the anguish of their tortured minds is for ever banished, and are plunged into the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, "where the worm

dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." And does not even now the representations of these "terrors of the Lord," fill us with horror? But, alas! what must the feeling of them be! If there is any thing in the reach of our understanding, that deservedly claims the character of awful and terrible, it is such as we have now stated. Let the sinners in Zion therefore be alarmed and tremble, repent and believe, love and obey, and thus be persuaded to "flee from the wrath to come."

THE END.
