In the Gentleman's Magazine, for the month of September 1821, vol. xci. page 232, there is some account of Dr Deacon, with a copy of the inscription, but it is a little imperfect, and very trifling indeed. The correspondent explains the first part of the Greek quotation to refer to the 6th Chap. of Saint Paul's Epistle to the Galatians: "God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of Christ."
