PUNISHMENT FROM GOD.

Job xx, 19-22. Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor, because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not; Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.

Job xxvii, 13-15. This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. Those that remain of him shall be buried in death; and his widows shall not weep.

Ps. ciii, 6. The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

Prov. xxii, 16, 23. He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want, For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

Isa. xxx, 12, 13. Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant. Prov. xx, 10, 23. Divers weights, and divers measures. both of them are alike abomination to the LORD. Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

Ezek. xlv, 10-12. Ye shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath. The ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure thereof shall be after the homer. LAW OF PLEDGES.

Deut. xxiv, 6, 10-13. No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man's life to pledge. When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge. Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee. John xiii, 16. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

PRECEPTS.

Lev. xxv, 43. Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour, but shalt fear thy God.

Prov. xxix, 21. He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall have him become his son at the length.

EXEMPLARY SERVANTS. Gen. xxxi, 6. And ye know, that with all my power I [Jacob] have served your father.

Gen. xxxix. 1-5. And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. And it came to pass, from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

Prov. xvii, 2. A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the

brethren.
