There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicolemus. a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. He then, lying on Jesus' breast, saith unto him, Lord, who is it? Jesus answered, IIe it is to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. had dipped the sop, he gave it to ABOUT THE LAST PASSOVER. Mark xiv, 13-16. Then Feter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. they abode in Galilee, Jesus said Matth. xvii, 22, 23. And, while unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of the third day he shall be raised men; And they shall kill him, and again. And they were exceeding sorry. Matth. xx, 17-19. And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the tweve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles, to mock, and to Scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Matth. xxvi, 1, 2. And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his and the Son of man is betrayed to disciples, Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, be crucified. Luke ix, 43, 44. And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But, while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples. The Son of man into the hands shall be delivered of men. Luke xiii, 33. Nevertheless I walk to-day, and to-morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? OF PETER'S MARTYRDOM. John xxi, 18-22. Verily, verily I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith usto him, Follow me. Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? Peter seeing him, saith to Jesus. Lord, and what shall this man dot Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me. CHRIST'S OFFICE AS A (See REDEMPTION.) For the Father loveth the Son and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath be given to the Son. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judg ment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John vill, 26, 28, 29. I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. John x, 18. No man taketh it John xvii, 4, 7. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Mark xiii, 26. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. John v, 22. For the Father judgeth no man, but hath comunto mitted all judgment the Son. Acts x, 42. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Rom. ii, 16. Phil. iii, 20. For our conversa tion is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Col. iii, 3, 4. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 1 Thess. 1, 10.
