And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt. And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man and upon beast. Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. Exod. 13, 11. And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians. Acts viii, 9-11. But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. Acts xiii, 6, 8. SIN AND GUILT OF lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee. Deut. xi, 16, 17. Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; And then the LORD's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you. When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land; Take heed to thyself, that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How bow down to their gods, nor serve, which brought thee out of the Exod. xxxiv, 17. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods. Lev. xix, 4. Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God. Lev. xxvi, 1. Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear up you a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. Deut. v, 8, 9. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. And when they went in to offer sacrifices, and burnt-offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him. And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, that Jehu said to the guard, and to the captains, the Go in and slay them; let none | Ashtaroth from among you, and 2 Kings xi, 18. And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burnt incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. Jer. viii, 19. Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country. Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her King in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities? Jer. xi, 17. For the LORD of pro-hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel, and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger, in offering incense unto Baal. 1 Sam. vii, 3. And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and 277 Jer. xii, 10. This evil people which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing. Jer. xvi, 19-21. O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. Shall man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to knew mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD. Ezek. xiv, 4-6. Therefore speak unto them,and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD, Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him that cometh accord ing to the multitude of his idols; That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God, Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. Ezek. xx, 7. Then said I unto them, Cast yo away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. Ezek. xxiii, 30, 49. I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols.
