If any Degree of Favour or Encouragement fhould chance to attend this Work, I fhall go on chearfully, by God's Aid, to finish it in another Volume; which I propofe to begin, with inquiring into the Idolatry and false Worship of the Hebrews; and then, when I have given a fhort Defcription of the City of Jerufalem, I fhall proceed to explain the Municipal Laws; fuch as refpected the Subjects in their private and domeftick Capacities; fuch as belong'd to the Publick and the Commonwealth, relating to Contracts, Bargains, Eftates, and Inheritances; fuch as concern'd Strangers and Matters of a foreign Nature, as the Laws of Peace and War, of Commerce and Dealing with Perfons of other Countries; and fuch as fecur'd the Honour and Intereft of Religion from Idolatry and Apoftacy, from Blafphemy and Sacrilege. Then likewise will be confider'd the Method of meafuring Time among the Hebrews; their Learning, particularly the Number, Divifion, Language, and Authority of the Canonical Scriptures; their Hiftoriography, Poetry, Painting, Sculpture, Architecture; their Weights, Measures, and Coins; their Paftoral Art, Agriculture,
