servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. (36) Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.

MARK XII.

1caught him, and beat him,
and sent him away empty.
(4) And again he sent unto
them another servant; and
2 at him they cast stones,
and wounded him in the
head, and sent him away
shamefully handled. (5) And again
he sent another: and him they killed,
and many others; beating some, and
killing some. (6) Having
yet
therefore one son,
his well beloved, he sent
him also last unto them,
saying, They will rever-
ence my son. (7) But
those husbandmen said
among themselves, This is
the heir; come, let us kill
him, and the inheritance
shall be ours.

(37) But

7 last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. (38) But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

(39) And they 1 caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. (40) When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? (41) They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those 10 wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

(42) Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures," The stone which the builders rejected, 12 the same is become the head of the corner this 13 is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? (43) Therefore say I unto you, The be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. (44) 14 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be 15 broken but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will 16 grind him to powder.

(10) And have ye not read 11 this scripture;" The stone which the builders rejected 12 is become the head of the corner: (1) this 13 was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

(11) And again he sent another servant : and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. (12) And 5 again he sent a third and they wounded him also, and cast him out. (13) Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. (14) But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. (15) So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

(16) He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

(1) And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, (2) The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a 3 marriage for his son, (3) and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the 8 wedding: and they would not come. (4) Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. (5) But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise (6) and the 5 remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. (7) But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. (8) Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. (9) Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. (10) So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good and the wedding was furnished with guests.

(11) And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: (12) and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. (13) Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (14) For many are called, but few are chosen.

(18) But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? (19) Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. (20) And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? (21) They say unto him, Cæsar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar's; and unto God the things that are God's. LUKE XX. 27-40.

(27) Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which 5 deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, (28) saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us," If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. (29) There were therefore seven brethren and the first took a wife, and died 10 without children. (30) And the second 12 took her to wife, and he died childless. (31) And the third took her; and in like manner the seven 15 also: and they left no children, and died.

(32) 1Last of all the woman died also. (33) Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. (34) And Jesus answering said unto them, The 5 children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: (35) but they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:(36) neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are 5 the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

(37) Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush,a when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. (38) For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

(39) Then certain of the scribes answering said,

Master, thou hast well said. (40) 13 And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.

Third Day of the Week.

MATT. XXII. 34-40. (34) But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. (35) Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, 14 and saying, (36) Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (28) And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? (29) And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is," Hear, O Israel; The Lord 15 our God is one Lord: (30) and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength : 17 this Տ the first commandment.

MARK XII.

(31) 2 And the second is like, namely this," Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. (32) And the scribe said unto him, 8 Well, Master,

thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he : (33) and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. (34) And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
