FROM the want of authentic records ascending into remote antiquity, the origin of most very ancient cities is involved in obscurity. Such obscurity also shrouds the origin of JERUSALEM, which, in the purposes of God, was destined to become the most marvellous city of the earth"marvellous from its beginning hitherto❞—like the people with whom the most important part of its history is identified.
