ferments vacant. In thirty years from 1833, that is, the year 1863, the present connection between church and state in Great Britain and Ireland will have formally and virtually ceased. In the year 1805 Napoleon menaced the temporal crown of the pope; in forty years afterwards, the year 1845, the Evangelical Alliance came into existence, of which it may be truly said, it menaces his spiritual crown; in thirty years more the Evangelical Alliance will have done its work; and in the year 1875 Britain shall stand forth a witness for the truth, the whole truth of God; both its horns, the church and the state, being horns of a lamb, made like unto the Son of God: while in the same year, the abomination that maketh desolate will once more be set up on the continent, including France. In the year 1876 the separation will be wide and impassable between truth and error, Britain shall have cast out the bondwoman and her son, of whom Hagar and Ishmael were figures. The formation of the Evangelical Alliance was a call to the faithful by God in His providence, commanding all saints to offer up their Isaac-their denominational and sectarian predilections and prejudices-upon the altar of christian faith working by love. To many, the doing of this will be a duty as difficult and painful as was that of Abraham when called upon to offer up his son Isaac. His heart was set upon him, his hope of blessing to the world was fixed upon him, and above all, he was the child of promise, peculiarly the gift of God. So, many good, amiable, and sincere christians will regard as a sore trial, and undoubtedly it is so, to be called upon to give up their great attachment for that denomination of christians among which their piety has been nourished and reared; to look upon their peculiar distinction as a

denomination, which they regarded as the most effective system through which the world might be blessed, as no longer of any value; to cast away deliberately, and of their own accord, that which they believed God had given them: these are things contrary to flesh and blood, but not more so than the command to Abraham was. He suffered no loss by rendering obedience, and he asked no questions, but immediately, when he received the command, he undertook the painful journey. Let all imitate his example, and it will be found in the happy experience of them who do so, that while they are making a painful sacrifice of what is justly valued and dear, (for let no man say that denominational partiality, within Scripture limits, was a forbidden thing; on the contrary, it has been the means by which God has prepared His people in this land for their high position in these last days; but it has waxed old, it has served its time, and must pass away, to be replaced by a new heaven, even the new Jerusalem, which cometh down from God out of heaven;) they are only parting with brass, for which they will receive silver in return; they are parting with silver, for which they will receive gold in return. But they must show a readiness to obey the Divine command, in giving up at God's bidding the brass and the silver, ere they are replaced by the silver and the gold. Ye must show your faith by your works, ere ye receive the reward of faith. You must cease to be a sectarian or denominational partisan, in abiding by which you can only experience the pleasant emotions and friendly intercourse of brotherly kindness. You must break with the one, not that you shall love your denominational friends less, but that you may not love them exclusively. You must break these bands,

and then God will enlarge your hearts: He will fill you with His own fulness, and God is love. You shall then know what the delights of God are; you shall drink of His Spirit, and the mind of Christ shall be in you: great, unspeakably and inconceivably great shall be your joy and happiness. "For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, besides thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him." (Isa. Ixiv. 4.) Adding eighteen years to the year 1845, being the dif ference of prophetical reckoning, makes it the year 1863, in the Divine plan of providence; and 1863 years before Christ, God did try Abraham, and said, "Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of." (Gen. xxii. 2.) He that hath an ear, let him hear.

When the last great crisis comes, when the world has entered upon the first year of it, 1876, believers will be pained and grieved because of the impending calamities, which they know are prepared to afflict and destroy large numbers of their fellow-men. Britain, although safe and happy within itself, will cast many a longing eye to the bondwoman and her son, spiritual Sodom and Egypt. She would fain preserve a connection in the hope, if it were possible, of averting the coming indignation. But God gave the woman Jezebel and her children space to repent, and she repented not; therefore, believers, you must come out and be separate, you must cast out the bondwoman and her son from among yourselves, and you must not touch the unclean thing. The year 1876 is the year 1894 in prophetical reckon

ing: and 1894 years before Christ, "God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called." Sarah had said, "Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac. And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son." (Genesis xxi. 10-12.) So the child of promise, the church from heaven, the new Jerusalem, must have no rival, and no connection. with any thing corrupt or unclean, 1894 years after Christ, which is the year 1876.

In the year 1808 Napoleon overturned the pope's civil power; forty years afterward the men of Rome revolt, and the pope's temporal dominion is again cast down; and in the same year the thrones of Europe, the horns of the beast, are shaken, as if tottering to their fall. In thirty years more the limit of their power and existence will have been reached. In the year 1878 God's purpose will have been fulfilled, and they shall have done all He designed to accomplish by them. His promise to His church from the foundation of the world will then be fulfilled. He will then visit His church, as He had said, and He will do unto that church as He had spoken. There shall be then, so to speak, the birth of His promise, its realization; He shall be known to all men by His name Jehovah. The year 1878 is the year 1896 in prophetic reckoning; and 1896 years before Christ, "the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him." (Gen. xxi.

1, 2.) So will He do to His church in the last days, according to His word, when the set time comes.

In the year 1809 the power of France, under Napoleon, is, by force of arms, carrying the pope away as a captive from Rome; forty years afterwards, in the year 1849, and the same power, under his nephew, is, by force of arms, taking him back when he is a fugitive from his own dominions. He did not return in that year, but the French held his capital in awe for him, by the power of the sword, and his government was reestablished. In thirty years more, in the year 1879, the conversion of the French nation will be the signal of the final destruction of the abomination that maketh desolate. The resurrection of the witnesses in France, will usher in that great time of trouble, such as has not been from the beginning of the world even till that same time; no nor ever shall be. The year 1879 is the year 1897 in prophetic reckoning, and 1897 years before Christ, "the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven: and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground." (Gen. xix. 24, 25.) "The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar." (Gen. xix 23.) So, the sun shall have risen upon the prophetic earth— Great Britain-and every living christian, every true believer shall be in a place of safety: Lot shall have entered into Zoar, the city of refuge, ere spiritual Sodom be utterly burned with fire; when the Lord God, who is strong, judgeth her.

Daniel's period of two thousand and three hundred days terminates in the same year, 1878, or 1896 prophetically. The threescore and two weeks of Daniel
