WE

V.

E are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. [Isaiah Ixiv. 6.]

VI.

MY days are like a shadow that declineth ;

and I am withered like grass.

VII.

[Psalm cii. 11.]

DEATH, how bitter is the remembrance of thee to a man that liveth at rest in his possessions, unto the man that hath nothing to vex him, and that hath prosperity in all things: yea, unto him that is yet able to receive meat!

O death, acceptable is thy sentence unto the needy, and unto him whose strength faileth, that is now in the last age, and is vexed with all things, and to him that despaireth, and hath lost patience!

VIII.

[Ecclus. xli. 1, 2.]

LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.

Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.

[Psalm xxxix. 4, 5.]

FEAR

IX.

EAR not the sentence of death, remember them that have been before thee, and

that come after; for this is the sentence of the Lord over all flesh.

And why art thou against the pleasure of the most High? there is no inquisition in the grave, whether thou have lived ten, or an hundred, or a thousand years.

[Ecclus. xli. 3, 4.]

Call to Heaven.

I.

BE ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.

Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground?

When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?

For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.

[Isaiah xxviii. 22-26.]

COM

II.

OME hither, and hear the words of the
LORD your God.

III.

[Joshua iii. 9.]

DOTH not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

Unto you, O men, I call; and

my

voice is to

the sons of man. O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

Co

[Proverbs viii. 1-10.]

IV.

COME ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

[Isaiah ii. 5.]

V.

EVEN from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

VI.

SEEK ye me, and ye shall live.

VII.

[Malachi iii. 7.]

[Amos v. 4.]

WISDOM hath builded her house, she

hath hewn out her seven pillars: She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

Forsake the foolish, and live.

VIII.

[Proverbs ix. 1—6.]

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. [Hosea x. 12.]

IX.

LOOK unto me, and be ye saved, all the

ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

X.

[Isaiah xlv. 22.]

THEREFORE also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

XI.

[Joel ii. 12, 13.]

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

XII.

[Isaiah lv. 1.]

SEEK ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.

XIII.

[Isaiah lv. 6.]

EARTH, earth, earth, hear the word of

the LORD.

[Jeremiah xxiii. 29.]
