VI. WE are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled. Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. [Psalm xc. 7, 8.] VII. WHOM the Lord loveth he correcteth ; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. VIII. [Proverbs iii. 12.] A1 LTHOUGH affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward. IX. [Job v. 6, 7.] THO HOU shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee. Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. X. [Deuteronomy viii. 5, 6.] HOW long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? [Psalm xiii. 1, 2.] TH XI. HE face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. [Psalm xxxiv. 16-19.] XII. THE LORD hath done great things for us ; whereof we are glad. Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again. with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. [Psalm cxxvi. 3-6.] XIII. HA APPY is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty. [Job v. 17.] Associates. I. ENTER not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. II. [Proverbs iv. 14.] AN unjust man is an abomination to the just and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked. BE III. [Proverbs xxix. 27.] E not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. [Proverbs xxiii. 20, 21.] IV. LET thy talk be with the wise, and all thy communication in the law of the most High. And let just men eat and drink with thee; and let thy glorying be in the fear of the Lord. [Ecclus. ix. 15, 16.] V. HE that toucheth pitch shall be defiled therewith; and he that hath fellowship with a proud man shall be like unto him. [Ecclus. xiii. 1.] VI. A FRIEND loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. WH BE IF VII. [Proverbs xvii. 17.] HAT fellowship hath the wolf with the VIII. E continually with a godly man, whom thou knowest to keep the commandments of the Lord, whose mind is according to thy mind, and will sorrow with thee, if thou shalt miscarry. IX. [Ecclus. xxxvii. 12.] F thou wouldest get a friend, prove him first, and be not hasty to credit him. For some man is a friend for his own occasion, and will not abide in the day of thy trouble. [Ecclus. vi. 7, 8.] Blessedness of the Righteous. I. BLESSED is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. [Psalm xxxii. 1, 2.] II. BLESS the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. III. [Psalm ciii. 1-6.] KNOW therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath there is none else. Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.
