Then he says the following Thanksgiving Prayer: ALMIGHTY God, who observest all the actions, thoughts, and secret motions of our hearts, and who watchest over us with an incomparable love, every moment bestowing favours and shielding us from evil, blessed be Thy holy name: and may all creatures bless Thy goodness for the benefits we have ever received from Thee, especially during the night past; but above all for the surpassing riches of Thy mercy, in creating and preserving, redeeming and sanctifying us.

helped by the consolations of Thy coming, who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

FOURTH WEEK.

RANT, we beseech Thee, O Almighty God, that we, who are deU pressed by our old servitude under the yoke of sin, may be delivered by the new birth of Thy only-begotten Son, which we now look for, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Collect to be said during the season of Lent.

LORD, who for our sakes didst fast forty days and forty nights, give us grace to employ this season in a more perfect self-denial, that our flesh being subdued by the mortification of our unruly wills and appetites, our minds may be free to approach Thee with ardour and fervency in our prayers; and that by abstaining according to our strength from those temporal blessings Thou hast given us, we may be taught to relish the pleasures of spiritual enjoyments, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Collects to be said on the Ember-days.

ALMIGHTY God, who from ancient times hast appointed a copy

tinual succession of priests and deacons, chosen and ordained by Thy bishops, to supply the spiritual wants of Thy faithful people, hear now, we beseech Thee, the supplications of Thy humble servants, and at this time so illuminate the minds of all bishops and pastors of Thy flock with the light of Thy brightness, that they may ordain such persons only as are indeed fitted for the sacred ministry of Thy Church. And we pray Thee grant both to us and all people the grace of reverence and due subjection to those so ordained, as truly sent by Thee to teach and dispense the mysteries of Thy truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

RANT, O Lord, to such as shall be ordained, the abundance of Thy grace and heavenly benediction; and so fill them with the truth of Thy doctrine, and endue them with innocency of life, that they may faithfully serve before Thee, to the glory of Thy great name, and set forward the salvation of all men; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

E

And Lord, we beseech Thee, never permit us to be so base and wicked as to repay Thy bounties with ingratitude, or Thy blessings with offences and injuries; but inflame our reins and hearts with the fire of Thy holy Spirit, that we may serve Thee with a chaste body, and please Thee with a clean heart, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then he says the two Collects following, and Prayer for a

blessing.

We pray Thee, O Lord, graciously continue to visit this

house and family; drive far from it all snares of the enemy; and keep us in peace and safety through this day, for the sake of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

ASSIST, we beseech thee, O Lord, our actions, by Thy holy

inspirations, and carry them on by Thy gracious assistance, that every prayer and work of ours may begin always from Thee, and by Thee may happily be ended, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

MAY

[AY the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, descend upon us, and remain with us for ever.
