"I will go in the strength of the Lord God.”—Psalm lxxi. 16.

NOTHER year is opening with all its hopes and fears,
With all its joys and sorrows, with all its smiles and tears,
With all its toilsome duties, its burdens and its cares,
With all its sore temptations, and its alluring snares.
But by Thy help, O Father, and in Thy mighty strength,
We travel boldly onwards, nor fear the journey's length;
In past years Thou hast blessed us, and led us safely on,
So in Thy love and power we'll trust till life is done.

And if the way seems cloudy, oh, let us feel Thee near,
To cheer us in our sorrows, to wipe away each tear;
We know that all Thy chast'nings are sent in tender love,
To draw our fond affections from earth to things above.
We would not shun our trials, their mission is so sweet,
They bring us close to Jesus, they chain us at His feet;
And when, in Thy good pleasure, Thou sendest peace again,
The joy within our spirits surpasseth all the pain.

But whether clouds hang o'er us, or joy's bright sun should shine,
Oh, may each heart say ever,-" Thy will, O Lord, not mine!
Thou, Jesus, bore my sorrows, Thou for my sins didst die,

So on Thy love and pity I trustfully rely."

Each day do Thou watch o'er us, and keep us by Thy side,
And when we're sorely tempted, oh, come and help the tried;
So will we wage the warfare, so will we run the race,
Until, O blessed Saviour! we see Thee face to face.

Hymns for Quiet Hours.
