Governesses in goodly numbers, now in the house seeking occupation, and many from outside who have obtained it. Many a kindly greeting was exchanged and friendship renewed.

The entertainments were various. Now a duet, then a song, now a merry game followed by a reading, then more music and more "readings." Young and old were there, mistress and maid; and all seemed heartily to enjoy one another's society. One gentleman of the Council, with a courage one could not but admire, bravely stood alone, the only man among some 50 ladies, and kindly accepting the post of chaplain, brought our pleasant soirée to an end with the voice of prayer and praise. All united with one accord in saying what a happy evening it had been, and went back to their toils refreshed and thankful, we trust, to Him who scatters flowers amidst the thorns of our daily life.

Many of our readers will be glad to hear that the weekly Bible-classes on Sundays and on week-days are being steadily carried on and well attended at the three Homes. That on the week day for the governess inmates of the

VISIT OF THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES THE

PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES.

HEIR R.H. the Prince and Princess of Wales, with their three daughters, Louise, Victoria, and Maud, honoured Mrs. Lewis and her workers by a lengthened visit, on Thursday, June 13th, to the Mission Home, 77, Avenue Wagram. Their R.H. arrived, accompanied by the Countess of Macclesfield, Mr. Austen Lee, and Col. Clarke, and alighted at the door of the Mission Hall, 79, Avenue Wagram, where the Kindergarten children and many of their parents were gathered. Immediately upon their

youngest children of the Kindergarten presented H.R.H. with a bouquet, which she was graciously pleased to accept. Then the children sang one of their action songs.

Their R.H. were evidently much interested in the children, who receive food and education while their mothers, chiefly widows, become the bread-winners. The Royal party then adjourned to the large dining-room of the Mission Home, where all the inmates and a few friends were gathered. After one verse of "God bless the Prince of Wales" had been sung, Mrs. Lewis explained to their R.H. the different departments of work carried on in this building, and then presented to their R.H. the lady workers, the members of the Paris and Church Councils, Dr. Faure-Miller, Hon. Physician to the Homes, and other friends. Mrs. Lewis conducted the Royal party to inspect some of the sitting-rooms and bed-rooms; and before leaving, they inscribed their names in the visitors' book, recording their delight with all they had seen in "this excellent Home."
