In a letter received from the Rev. Mr Campbell, of date 25th January 1848, he says that an answer to the petition had been received from the trustees-unfavourable. One of them, in name of the other, says, "The trustees can see nothing to authorise them to depart from the resolution they formerly and unanimously arrived at."

GRANTOWN, DUTHIL, &c.

A letter, dated 26th November 1847, has been received from this district, in which it is stated, that the Free Church of Grantown renewed their application, about two months previously, to Lord Seafield for a site in the village of Grantown; but no answer had been returned. His Lordship was at Castle Grant, renewing the leases of his farms in Strathspey; and a friend of the Free Church called a few days after the petition was presented, and upon conversing with Lord Seafield on the subject, his Lordship said that he would not grant a site nearer the village of Grantown than three miles. The friend assured his Lordship that it could not be accepted in a locality so inconvenient.

The congregation still meet in the Mason Lodge. The Rev. Mr Shepherd of Kingussie preached to a large congregation at Duthil, in the open air, on Sabbath, the 21st November 1847.

ARBIRLOT (Forfarshire.)

The offer of a site made in the month of May 1847, on the part of Lord Panmure, and which had been accepted by the congregation, has since been withdrawn. Other sites have been offered, but the congregation, with the sanction of the Presbytery, have declined to accept these, as unsuitable and inconvenient.
