CHRIST BORN OF A VIRGIN.

Therefore the LORD himself shall give you a sign: Behold a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.-Isaiah vii. 14.

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou Son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel; which being interpreted, is, God with us.-Matt. i. 20-23.

THE MINISTRY OF CHRIST.

HUMILITY OF CHRIST & CONVERSION OF THE GENTILES.

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth: I have put my spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his law.

Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out: he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein;

I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light. of the Gentiles;

To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.-Is. xlii. 1-7.

Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

:

But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all and charged them that they should not make him known: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Behold my servant, whom I have chosen : my beloved, in whom I my soul is well pleased: I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

He shall not strive nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.-Matthew xii. 14-21.

Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come :

That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.-Acts xxvi. 22, 23.

LIVING WATER, OR THE HOLY SPIRIT, GIVEN THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy and eat yea, come, buy wine and milk without money, and without price.

Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

Incline your ear, and

come unto me: hear,

and your soul. shall live and I will make an

everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander of the people.

Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not; and nations that knew not thee, shall run unto thee, because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.—Isaiah lv. 1—5.

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep from whence then hast thou that living water?

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.-John vi. 10-14.

THE ENTRY OF CHRIST INTO JERUSALEM UPON AN ASS.

Rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold thy King cometh unto thee he is just, and having salvation

:

;

lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battlebow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.-Zechariah ii. 9-10.

And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, saying unto them, Go into the village over aginst you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.Matt. xxi. 1-9.
