PREFACE. THE version which is now offered to the public, was undertaken by the author entirely for his own improvement, from an earnest desire to understand and fix upon the memory those sacred truths, some of which are "hard to be understood." The advantages of the employment, and the interest it created, suggested the idea of publishing the Work. He is aware that he has taken great liberties with the Authorised Version, although not greater than many others have done before him; and it was only from the feeling that their works were too voluminous for the instruction of the poorer classes, that he was induced to offer his to the public. |
