hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth 5 not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

"When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that 10 Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, (though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) now after that John was put in prison, when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, 1he left Judæa, and departed again into Galilee. And Jesus returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee. And he must needs go through 15 Samaria.

'Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

"Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

"There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 25 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than 30 our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

'Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him 35 shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

*Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, 40 Thou hast well said, I have no husband: for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 'Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto 45 her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye

*know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

*The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ when he is come he will tell us all things.

*Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

*And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest 10 thou with her?

"The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

*In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, 20 and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent 25 you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that 30 he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; and said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee, 35 2Jesus came into Galilee. For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. And there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And 40 he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all, 'preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at 45 Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judæa into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down,

*and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was 5 now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his 10 whole house.

"This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judæa into Galilee.

3And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up :

3And, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath 15 day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, 20 and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

3And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled 25 in your ears. And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.

And they said, Is not this Joseph's son? And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 30 3And he said, verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; but unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman 35 that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led 40 him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. But he passing through the midst of them went his way.

'And leaving Nazareth, he came down to 1and dwelt in Capernaum, 3a city of Galilee, 'which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon 45 and Nephthalim; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalin,

'by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; the people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

1From that time Jesus taught them on the sabbath days, and 'began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 5 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon, called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, and saw two ships 10 standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. "And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

"Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out 15 into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when

they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the 20 other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

3When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had 25 taken. And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, 'follow me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. 1And 30 they straightway left their nets, they forsook their nets, they forsook all and followed him. 1And going on from thence, when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw other two brethren, James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship 1with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And straightway he 35 called them: 'and they immediately left the ship and their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after, 1and followed him.

And they went into Capernaum.

And straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, 40 and taught. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes, for his word was with power.

2And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, 3which had a spirit of an unclean devil; and he cried out with a loud 45 voice, 'saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art,

'the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil, the unclean spirit, 3had thrown him in the midst, had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him, and hurt him not. And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned and spake among themselves, saying, 5 What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? 3what a word is this! 2for with authority and power he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him, 3and they come out.

And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee. And the fame of him went out into every place 10 of the country round about.

And he arose out of the synagogue, and forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever, lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her; 15 and they besought him for her. And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he came, and he stood over her, and he touched her hand, and rebuked the fever, and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and immediately she arose and she ministered unto 20 them.

Now, when the even was come, when the sun was setting, at even, when the sun did set, all they that had any sick with divers diseases, brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils; and he laid his hands on every one of them, 25 and healed them, 'and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. And all the city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out 30 many devils. And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them, 'suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him, for they knew that he was Christ.

"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went 35 out, and when it was day he departed and went into a desert, solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. 40 And the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.

'And Jesus went about all Galilee, and he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils; 'teaching in their 45 synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And
