Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.-Matt. i. 18-21.

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Je

sus.

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.-Luke i. 30-33.

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father of David.-Luke i. 32.

Christ, the Messiah, should be of the house and lineage David.

and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek and his

rest shall be glorious.-Isaiah xi. 1, 2, 10.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.Isaiah ix. 6, 7.

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.Micah v. 2.

There shall come a star out of Jacob,

and a sceptre shall rise out of Israel.

Christ to be born at Bethlehem.

At the birth of Christ a star appeared in the east.

Christ the Messiah was to be a king.

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea.—Matt. ii. 1.

And Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him, Saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.— Matt. xxvii. 11.

And set up over his head his accusation written, This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.-Matt. xxvii. 37.

Jesus answered, My_kingdom is not of this world.-John xviii. 36.

And he saith unto the Jews, Behold your king.—John xix. 14.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wrath, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.-Matt. ii. 16.

Now, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Saying, where is he that is born king of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to, worship him.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child, with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.--Matt. ii. 1, 2, 11.

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.-Hosea xi. 1.

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me.-Malachi iii. 1. Behold, I will send you Elijah, the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.-Malachi iv. 5.

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord.-Isaiah xl. 3.

Behold my servant, whom I uphold, mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my Spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the

streets.

A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench; he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

Christ called out of Egypt.

A prophet in the spirit of Elias should go before Christ.

That Jesus the Christ was the elect servant of the Father, in whom he was well pleased, and upon whom he caused the Holy Spirit to descend.

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.-Matt. ii. 19, 20.

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

And saying, Repent ye, for this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias.-Matt. iii. 1-3.

Verily I say unto you, among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist;

And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.Matt. xi. 11, 14.

I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.-John i. 23.

He took upon him the form of a servant.-Phil. ii. 7.

Lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.-Matt. iii. 17. The heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.-Matt. iii. 16.
