the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those The Way that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

of the While they promise them liberty, they themselves World are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is and the overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. Way of For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the Life world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not 10 to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that 15 was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

* This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you;
in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of
remembrance: that ye may be mindful of the words
which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and 20
of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord
and Saviour: knowing this first, that there shall come
in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for
since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as 25
they were from the beginning of the creation. For
this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word
of God the heavens were of old, and the earth stand-

The ing out of the water and in the water: whereby Coming of the world that then was, being overflowed with water, the Lord perished: but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved

5 unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not 10 slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the 15 heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy 20 conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens 25 and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even

as our beloved brother Paul also according to the Grow in wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; as Grace & also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; Spiritual in which are some things hard to be understood, which Knowthey that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do ledge also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord 10 and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

The General Epistle of

Jude

UDE, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be 5 multiplied.

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto against you of the common salvation, it was needful for me False to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should Teaching earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own 20 habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about

them in like manner, giving themselves over to forni- The cation, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for Edifice of an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Faith Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet 5 Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know to naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, 20 foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment 25 upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
