NOTICE OF JEAN ALAUX. Jean Alaux the younger, brother of the author of Neorama, was born in Paris about the year 1795. He was pupil of Vincent, and obtained the grand prize at Rome in 1815. On his return to Paris, several of his works were exhibited at the Salon, and he received a medal of encouragement in 1824. He was afterwards employed to paint several pictures in the rooms at the Louvre appropriated to the sittings of the council of state, and has since received the decoration of the Legion of Honour. M. Alaux availed himself of his stay in Italy, to paint a number of familiar scenes, many of which he has himself engraved on stone. |
