welsent yn y dwyrain a aeth o'u | which they saw in the east, went blaen hwy, hyd oni ddaeth hi a before them, till it came and stood sefyll goruwch y lle yr oedd y mab over where the young child was.

bychan.

10 A phan welsant y seren, llawenychasant â llawenydd mawr dros ben.

11 A phan ddaethant i'r tŷ, hwy a welsant y mab bychan gyd â Mair ei fam, a hwy a syrthiasant i lawr, ac a'i haddolasant ef: ac wedi agoryd eu trysorau, a offrymmasant iddo anrhegion; aur, a thus, a myrr.

12 Ac wedi eu rhybuddio hwy gan Dduw trwy freuddwyd, na ddychwelent at Herod, hwy a aethant drachefn i'w gwlad ar hyd ffordd arall.

13 Ac wedi iddynt ymado, wele angel yr Arglwydd yn ymddangos i Joseph mewn breuddwyd, gan ddywedyd, Cyfod, cymmer y mab bychan a'i fam, a ffo i'r Aipht, a bydd yno hyd oni ddywedwyf iti: canys ceisio a wna Herod y mab bychan i'w ddifetha ef.

14 Ac yntau pan gyfododd, a gymmerth y mab bychan a'i fam o hyd nos, ac a giliodd i'r Aipht:

15 Ac a fu yno hyd farwolaeth Herod fel y cyflawnid yr hyn a ddywedwyd gan yr Arglwydd trwy y prophwyd, gan ddywedyd, O'r Aipht y gelwais fy mab.

16 Yna Herod, pan weles ei siommi gan y doethion, a ffrommodd yn aruthr, ac a ddanfonodd ac a laddodd yr holl fechgyn oedd yn Bethlehem, ac yn ei holl gyffiniau, o ddwyflwydd oed a than hynny, wrth yr amser yr ymofynasai efe yn fanwl â'r doethion.

17 Yna y cyflawnwyd yr hyn a ddywedasid gan Jeremias y prophwyd, gan ddywedyd,

18 Llef a glybuwyd yn Rama, galar, ac wylofain, ac ochain mawr, Rachel, yn wylo am ei phlant;

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 And was there until the death of Herod that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

18 In Ramah was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weep

ac ni fynnai ei chysuro, am nad | ing for her children, and would oeddynt. not be comforted, because they are not.

19 ¶ Ond wedi marw Herod, wele angel yr Arglwydd mewn breuddwyd yn ymddangos i Joseph yn yr Aipht,

20 Gan ddywedyd, Cyfod, a chymmer y mab bychan a'i fam, a dos i dir Israel: canys y rhai oedd yn ceisio einioes y mab bychan a fuant feirw.

21 Ac wedi ei gyfodi, efe a gymmerth y mab bychan, a'i fam, ac a ddaeth i dir Israel.

22 Eithr pan glybu efe fod Archelaus yn teyrnasu ar Judea yn lle ei dad Herod, efe a ofnodd fyned yno. Ac wedi ei rybuddio gan Dduw mewn breuddwyd, efe a giliodd i barthau Galilea.

23 A phan ddaeth, efe a drigodd mewn dinas a elwid Nazareth: fel y cyflawnid yr hyn a ddywedasid trwy y prophwydi, Y gelwid ef yn Nazaread.

PENNOD III.

Ayn y dyddiau hynny y daeth

Ioan Fedyddiwr, gan bregethu

yn niffaethwch Judea,

2 A dywedyd, Edifarhêwch: canys nesâodd teyrnas nefoedd.

19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 But when he heard that Ar-. chelaus did reign in Judea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

CHAPTER III.

N those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

3 Oblegid hwn yw efe yr hwn y dywedwyd am dano gan Esaias y prophwyd, gan ddywedyd, Llef un yn llefain yn y diffaethwch, Parottôwch ffordd yr Arglwydd; gwnewch yn uniawn ei lwybrau ef. 4 A'r Ioan hwnnw oedd â'i ddillad o flew camel, a gwregys o groen yn nghylch ei lwynau: a'i fwydern girdle about his loins; and his oedd locustiaid a mel gwyllt.

5 Yna yr aeth allan atto ef Jerusalem, a holl Judea, a'r holl wlad o amgylch yr Iorddonen:

6 A hwy a fedyddiwyd ganddo ef yn yr lorddonen, gan gyffesu eu pechodau.

7 A phan welodd efe lawer o'r

4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leath

meat was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then went out to him Jeru-
salem, and all Judea, and all the
region round about Jordan,
6 And were baptized of him in
Jordan, confessing their sins.

7 But when he saw many of

Phariseaid ac o'r Saduceaid yn dy- | the Pharisees and Sadducees come fod i'w fedydd ef, efe a ddywedodd to his baptism, he said unto them, wrthynt hwy, O genhedlaeth gwib- O generation of vipers, who hath erod, pwy a'ch rhag-rybuddiodd i warned you to flee from the wrath ffoi rhag y llid a fydd? to come?

8 Dygwch gan hynny ffrwythau addas i edifeirwch.

9 Ac na feddyliwch ddywedyd ynoch eich hunain, Y mae gennym ni Abraham yn dad ini: canys yr ydwyf yn dywedyd i chwi, y dichon Duw, ïe, o'r meini hyn, gyfodi plant i Abraham.

10 Ac yr awr hon hefyd y mae y fwyell wedi ei gosod ar wreiddyn y prennau pob pren gan hynny yr hwn nid yw yn dwyn ffrwyth da, a dorrir i lawr, ac a deflir yn tân.

11 Myfi yn ddïau ydwyf yn eich bedyddio chwi â dwfr i edifeirwch: eithr yr hwn sydd yn dyfod ar fy ol i, sydd gryfach na myfi, yr hwn nid ydwyf deilwng i ddwyn ei esgidiau: efe a'ch bedyddia chwi â'r Yspryd Glân, ac â thân.

12 Yr hwn y mae ei wyntyll yn ei law, ac efe a lwyr-lanhâ ei lawrdyrnu, ac a gasgl ei wenith i'w ysgubor; eithr yr us a lysg efe â thân anniffoddadwy.

13 ¶ Yna y daeth yr Iesu o Galilea i'r Iorddonen at Ioan, i'w fedyddio ganddo.

14 Eithr Ioan a warafunodd iddo ef, gan ddywedyd, Y mae arnaf fi eisieu fy medyddio gennyt ti, ac a ddeui di attaf fi?

8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance :

9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire :

12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 Ond yr Iesu a attebodd ac a 15 And Jesus answering said ddywedodd wrtho ef, Gâd yr awr unto him, Suffer it to be so now: hon; canys fel hyn y mae yn for thus it becometh us to fulfil all weddus i ni gyflawni pob cyfiawn-righteousness. Then he suffered der. Yna efe a adawodd iddo. him.

16 A'r Iesu, wedi ei fedyddio, a aeth yn y fan i fynu o'r dwfr : ac wele, y nefoedd a agorwyd iddo, ac efe a welodd Yspryd Duw yn disgyn fel colommen, ac yn dyfod arno ef.

17 Ac wele, lef o'r nefoedd, yn dywedyd, Hwn yw fy anwyl Fab, yn yr hwn y'm boddlonwyd.

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him : 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

[blocks in formation]

6 Ac a ddywedodd wrtho, Os mab Duw wyt ti, bwrw dy hun i lawr; canys ysgrifenwyd, Y rhydd efe orchymyn i'w angelion am danat; a hwy a'th ddygant yn eu dwylaw, rhag taro o honot un amser dy droed wrth garreg.

7 Yr Iesu a ddywedodd wrtho, Ysgrifenwyd drachefn, Na themtia yr Arglwydd dy Dduw.

8 Trachefn y cymmerth diafol ef i fynydd tra uchel, ac a ddangosodd iddo holl deyrnasoedd y byd, a'u gogoniant;

9 Ac a ddywedodd wrtho, Hyn oll a roddaf i ti, os syrthi i lawr a'm haddoli i.

10 Yna yr Iesu a ddywedodd wrtho, Ymaith, Satan; canys ysgrifenwyd, Yr Arglwydd dy Dduw a addoli, ac ef yn unig a wasanaethi.

11 Yna y gadawodd diafol ef: ac wele, angelion a ddaethant ac a weiniasant iddo.

12 A phan glybu yr Iesu draddodi Ioan, efe a aeth i Galilea.

13 A chan adaw Nazareth, efe a aeth ac a arhosodd yn Capernaum, yr hon sydd wrth y môr,

THE

CHAPTER IV.

THEN was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to

be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward ahungered.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down : for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt

thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in

y'nghyffiniau Zabulon a Neph- the borders of Zebulun and Nephthali : thalim:

14 Fel y cyflawnid yr hyn a ddywedwyd trwy Esaias y prophwyd, gan ddywedyd,

15 Tir Zabulon, a thir Nephthali, wrth ffordd y môr, tu hwnt i'r lorddonen, Galilea y Cenhedloedd :

16 Y bobl oedd yn eistedd mewn tywyllwch, a welodd oleuni mawr; ac i'r rhai a eisteddent yn mro a chysgod angau, y cyfododd goleuni iddynt.

17 O'r pryd hwnnw y dechreuodd yr lesu bregethu, a dywedyd, Edifarhêwch: canys nesâodd teyrnas nefoedd.

18 ¶ A'r Iesu yn rhodio wrth fôr Galilea, efe a ganfu ddau frodyr, Simon, yr hwn a elwir Petr, ac Andreas ei frawd, yn bwrw rhwyd i'r môr (canys pysgodwyr oeddynt) 19 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrthynt, Deuwch ar fy ol i, a mi a'ch gwnaf yn bysgodwyr dynion.

20 A hwy yn y fan, gan adael y rhwydau, a'i canlynasant ef.

21 Ac wedi myned rhagddo oddi yno, efe a welodd ddau frodyr eraill, Iago fab Zebedeus, ac Ioan ei frawd, mewn llong gyd â Zebedeus eu tad, yn cyweirio eu rhwydau ac a'u galwodd hwy. 22 Hwythau yn ebrwydd, gan adael y llong a'u tad, a'i canlynasant ef.

23 A'r Iesu a aeth o amgylch holl Galilea, gan ddysgu yn eu synagogau, a phregethu efengyl y deyrnas, a iachâu pob clefyd a phob afiechyd ym mhlith y bobl.

24 Ac aeth sôn am dano ef trwy holl Syria; a hwy a ddygasant atto yr holl rai drwg eu hwyl, a'r rhai yr oedd amryw glefydau a chnofeydd yn eu dala, a'r rhai cythreulig, a'r rhai lloerig, a'r sawl oedd â'r parlys arnynt; ac efe a'u hiachâodd hwynt.

25 A thorfeydd lawer a'i canlyn

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zebulan, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

25 And there followed him great
