children speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way; when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. -Deut. xi. 18, 19.

O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end.-Deut. xxxii. 29. Lam. i. 9. Jer. xxiii. 20. xxx. 24.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night. Josh. i. 8.

Fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. I Sam. xii. 24. 1 Chron. xvi. 12.

David hastily resolved to cut off Nabal's house: but when by Abigail's words he considered the matter, he was staid, and blessed the counsel, &c.-1 Sam. xxv. 14. 39. 44.

I have considered the days of old, &c. When he slew them, &c. they remembered that God was their rock. —Ps. lxxviii. 34, 35. 41—43.

I will sing praise unto my God, &c. my meditation of him shall be sweet.-Ps. civ. 33, 34.

They forgat God their Saviour, who had done great things in Egypt, &c.-Ps. cvi. 7. 20-22.

Who is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving-kindness of the Lord.-Ps.

The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein: his work is honourable, &c. he hath made his wonderful works to be remembered.--Ps.

Wherewithal shall a young man When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee, and put a knife to thy throat, &c.-Prov. xxiii. 1, 2.

cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word? &c. I will meditate in thy precepts, &c, Princes also did sit and speak against Keep thy foot when thou goest to me, but thy servant did meditate in the house of God: and be more thy statutes, &c. I thought on my ready to hear, than to give the sacriways, and turned my feet unto thy fice of fools; for they consider not testimonies, &c. I remembered thy that they do evil: be not rash with judgments of old, O Lord, and have thy mouth, and let not thine heart be comforted myself, &c. Thy commandment is exceeding broad, &c. Thy law is my meditation who can make that straight which he all the day thou through thy com- hath made crooked? &c. in the day mandments hast made me wiser than of adversity consider.-Eccles. vii. mine enemies; for they are ever 13, 14. with me: I have more understanding than my teachers, for thy testimonies are my meditation, &c. Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.-Ps. cxix. 9. 15. 23. 48. 52. 55. 59. 78. 95-99. 148.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!-Ps. cxxxix. 17, 18.

I remember the days of old, I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thine hands &c. my soul thirsteth after thee, &c.-Ps.cxliii. 5, 6. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established (or all thy ways shall be ordered aright). -Prov. iv. 26. Eccles. ii. 14.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise.-Prov. vi. 6.

The simple believeth every word, but the prudent man looketh well to his going.-Prov. xiv. 15.

The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.--Prov. xv. 28.

The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth (or maketh his mouth), &c.Prov. xvi. 23.

A wicked man hardeneth his face; but as for the upright, he directeth (or considereth) his way.-Prov. xxi. 29.

Consider the work of God: for

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth.-Eccles, xii. 1.

The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider. Ah, sinful nation!-Isa. i. 3, 4.

They regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands: therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge.-Isa. v. 12, 13. Ps. xxviii. 5.

That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.-Isa. xli. 20.

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.Isa. xliii. 18.

God, complaining of the sottishness of the makers and worshippers of idols, saith, None considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge or understanding to say, I have burnt part of it in the fire, &c, and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?-Isa. xliv. 17-19.

The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away; none considering that the righteous is taken from the evil to come.-Isa. lvii. 1,

Thou meetest him, &c. those that

remember thee in thy ways. Isa. lxiv. 5.

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed.-Lam. iii. 20-22.

They shall remember me among the nations, whither they shall be carried captives.- Ezek. vi. 9.

Son of man, prepare thee stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight, &c. it may be they will consider, though they be a rebellious house. -Ezek. xii. 3.

Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, &c. behold, I will recompense, &c.-Ezek. xvi. 23.

When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, &c. and they consider not in their hearts, that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about, they are before my face.-Hosea vii. 1, 2. When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord. Jonah ii. 7.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Consider (or set you hearts upon) your ways. Hag. i. 5. 7.

Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, &c. Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, &c. And why take ye thought for raiment? consider the lilies of the field how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin and yet Solomon, &c.— Matt. vi. 25, 26. 28-30.

Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?-Matt. vii. 3.

The disciples (for want of consideration) said, To what purpose is this waste? for this ointment might have been sold for much, &c. Jesus said, Why trouble ye the woman, for she hath wrought a good work upon me.-Matt. xxvi. 7—11.

The wind ceased, and they were sore amazed, &c. and wondered; for they considered not the miracle of the loaves, for their heart was hardened. -Mark vi. 51, 52.

All they that heard it, wondered, &c. but Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.Luke ii. 17-19. i. 29. 65, 66.

All men mused (or reasoned, or debated) in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ or not.Luke iii. 15.

Which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath sufficient to finish it? &c.-Luke xiv. 28-31.

The prodigal, when he came to himself, said, How many hired servants of my father have bread? &c. Luke xv. 17.

Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what you shall answer: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, &c. Luke xxi. 14, 15.

Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people.-John xi. 49, 50.

Peter rashly said to Jesus, Thou shalt never wash my feet: but when Jesus had said, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me: Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. -John xiii. 8, 9.

These things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them.John xvi. 4.

They of the circumcision contended with Peter for going in to the Gentiles, till they had considered the grounds which Peter rehearsed to them.-Acts xi. 1, &c.

While we look not at the things

which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.-2 Cor. iv. 18.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.-Gal. vi. 1.

Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so, as ye have us for an example.-Phil. iii. 17.

Meditate upon these things: give thyself wholly to them, &c. Consider what I say, and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.-1 Tim. iv. 15. 2 Tim. ii. 7.

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to him that appointed him.Heb. iii. 1, 2.

Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. -Heb. vii. 4.

And let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works. -Heb. x. 24.

Let us run with patience the race that is set before us: looking unto Jesus, &c. for consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied, and faint in your minds.-Heb. xii.

CHAP. XXX.

OF THE THOUGHTS, MIND AND
AFFECTIONS.

AN heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, God hateth.-Prov. vi. 16. 18.

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. -Gen. vi. 5. viii. 21.

If they shall bethink themselves (or bring back their heart) in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, &c.-1 Kings viii. 47. Deut. xxx. 1, 2.

The Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts, &c.-1 Chron. xxviii. 9.

I have made a covenant with my eyes, why then should I think upon a maid?-Job xxxi. 1.

The wicked, &c. will not seek after God. God is not in all his thoughts (or all his thoughts are, there is no God).-Ps. x. 4.

We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.-Ps. xlviii. 9. cxxxix. 17.

Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places, &c.- Ps. xlix. 11.

Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such a one as thyself, &c.— Ps. 1. 21.

My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow, &c. when I remember thee upon my bed.-Ps. lxiii. 5, 6.

When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me, until I went into the sanctuary, &c. Ps. lxxiii. 16, 17.

The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity, &c. In the multitude of my thoughts within me, thy comforts delight my soul.Ps. xciv. 11. 19.

I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies, &c. I hate vain thoughts; but thy law do I

love.-Ps. cxix. 59. 113.

Thou knowest my down sitting,

and mine uprising, thou understand est my thought afar off, &c. Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts.-Ps. cxxxix. 2. 23.

His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.-Ps. cxlvi. 4.

The thoughts of the righteous are right, but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.-Prov. xii. 5.

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord.-Prov.xv.26. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. -Prov. xvi. 3.

The thoughts of the diligent tendeth only to plenteousness: but of every one that is hasty, only to want. -Prov. xxi. 5.

Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye: for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.-Prov. xxiii. 6, 7.

The thought of foolishness is sin. -Prov. xxiv. 9.

If thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.--Prov. xxx. 32. Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber; for the bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.Eccles. x. 20.

O Assyria, &c. I will send him against an hypocritical nation, &c. howbeit, he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and cut off nations not a few.-Isa. x. 5—7.

Let the wicked man forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord.-Isa. lv. 7.

Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.-Isa. lix. 7.

I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that is not good, after their own thoughts.--Isa. Ixv. 2.

O Jerusalem, wash thine heart

from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved: how long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?-Jer.iv.14.

Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God that giveth rain.-Jer. v. 24.

Behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts. Jer. vi. 19.

Thus saith the Lord, &c. I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.-Ezek. xi. 5.

Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed.-Dan. v. 6.

A book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.-Mal. iii. 16.

Take no thought for your life, &c. Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? &c. Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself: sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. —Matt. vi. 25. 27, 28. 31. 34.

Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?-Matt. ix. 4. Mark ii. 8.

But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak; for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak: for it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.-Matt. x. 19, 20.

A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. Matt. xii. 35.

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, &c.-Matt. xv. 19.

When Mary saw the angel, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be, &c. He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.-Luke i. 29. 51.
